I learned how to build a boat from my father who was an old time boat builder in NewEngland . The bronze piece made for finding the center line ? Had I produced a finished product like that for my father he would have had me make it over. A few pointers… The counter sunk screw holes where much to deep, the screw heads should have been flat heads and then filed down to meet the crown of the half oval filling the entire counter sunk hole. The slots of the screw heads should have both been horizontal when completed. The piece when completed should have been sanded with fine sandpaper to a uniform shine.

My wife and I , 73 and 77, are currently "cleaning out the garage", and it is a sad and somewhat tearful experience. Back in 1990 we were working towards doing The Big C -- out the Golden Gate and turn left, then "run til the butter melts" ... and we won't be home for dinner. But "life happened" and we are now too old and too infirm to do that. So we are packing up and giving away all of the bits and pieces that were part of that dream -- foulies and watch jackets, SOSpenders, our nav books and ephermises (but not the sextant!), etc., etc., etc. It is a truly painful process. I know Leo started doing this for himself, but in the process he has given an invaluable gift to those us who also had the dream, but not the skills or the time. We dreamed, he does, and we thank him *so* much for sharing his journey with us all. God Bless Tally Ho! and all who will sail on her.

One of the enjoyable parts to boat building is how one's perspective changes during construction. At times, the project seems enormous; huge and almost unbelievably complex. Then, when one phase of construction ends, it will appear to have gotten smaller, more defined and manageable. The creation and hanging of the frames made this boat look gigantic. Now, with the hull complete and deck hardware going on, its much smaller, more personal, compact and simple appearing. It will grow again with mast and rigging going in. Lastly, when launched, and she's in the water, she will attain her full dimension again. Im sure out on the water, with a decent blow, Talley Ho will seem small at times. thanks for the journey.

What a wonderful suprise to see Patrick Mayhan lending his expertise to the project, your lucky to have him, i say this because he was my instructor when i did a post graduate coarse at the wooden boat school in P.T. in interior joinery, no one else signed up for the coarse, so it was one on one, lucky me, we designed an interior for a 25 ft. Munk designed motor boat and i built it, neat things like louvered doors, Patrick was the best instructor one could wish for and i still use the methods he taught me.

There must be a lot of sharkhazam floating around the shop that they feel the need to clarify that Joe “isn’t a weird cookie”. Great work crew!!!

Great high-level pan at 23:28 Leo. Really reminds me of just how far you, and this project have come in the years I've been following it.

Lots of good stuff going on! What a wonderful team. Welcome to Pat - it´s going to be so rewarding to see the deck furniture be added. Look at George at 9:28! He is petting the old bronze :-) Thank you for the overview towards the end - she is a beauty!!

Fascinating to watch Leo and Steve Denette, both consummate artists, craftsmen, and perfectionists, approach the Art of Boatbuilding so differently. Leo, with his hi-tech, state-of-the-art, approach to restoring Tally Ho, and Steve with his minimalist, form-follows-function approach to A2A, both creating exquisite works of art to sail the world's oceans. And then there is Bob Emser, whose credo, "If you are going to make it, make it beautiful," is on display in everything Leo and Steve and their unbelievably talented crews are creating.

The last rising shot that slowly reveals the deck brought a tear to my eye. So beautiful.

The videos that you’ve taken of everyday scenery and tasks that take place in boatyards have brought back many happy memories from my youth. My dad always owned a boat from the time I was 2 till I was 20. I miss those days more than I can say. Our last boat was a 1969, 35’ Pacemaker Convertible Sedan. She was a beautiful wood hulled boat with appealing lines and she was named the Hel-Liz-And IV. Hel for my mother, Helen, Liz for me, Elizabeth, And for my Dad Andrew. Thank You for sharing your pictures and videos. I’ve been watching your channel since the beginning and thoroughly enjoy each and every video.

From among the quite beautiful fabrication, I perhaps most enjoyed the quote..."Oh, I am 50 years on at shipwright. A huge clarity of the skill required and shown to the tasks one by one to fitting out. This statement, a reflection upon the constant to vessels so useful to the sailor. Strength and product that must withstand storms. But this one bit more...can it be these men and women who find their place at lands end...are happy to this life? Reflecting...always...that craftmanship to satisfaction as...first personal in worth and fit..finish and signed a bit in that making. Just maybe, that is the place the coin captures to under the mast. What men and women send to the sea. Dreams made real. M.
