Turning Overdrive on is keeping the gear at midrange to remain in high torque requirement like in going up hill and down hill to reduce break usage.

I noticed it helps ..don't have to brake as my much. All cars Infront you'll see the brake lights, but you will just be slow n steady. Yeah , up hills and down hills

understanding level is 50-50 for me. So, to clear them- 1) overdrive on means speedup? 2) what if i always keep it on? (dashboard light is not popping, so i assume its on) 3) or always turn it off? i have camry 2004

Sooo basically it’s like another sport mode because I have a 2018 Altima and it has sport mode and the over drive button I’m confused

Sorta kinda , if I had ur car I'd just use sport mode. O/d off is only for up hills or down hills . I have an 01 maxima sometimes I leave it on all the time unless I go over 50. Definitely like a sport mode keeps the rpms higher

I hit the O/D button on my shifter while I was driving, the lights started blinking and the button won't turn it off while I'm driving. When I turn the truck off and restart the light is gone but as I'm picking up speed the O/D light comes back on flashing. I have a 2004 ford ranger 3.0 automatic transmission. Can I bypass this feature so I can go back home. I'm out of state. When I'm driving and the light is blinking the button won't turn the overdrive back on. It drove out of state really good. Please help me with this issue

If you listen he says the overdrive is on when going over 65 mph it helps with fuel efficiency. Therefore wasting less gas in the long run it’s not anything bad. It sounds like your car does this automatically.

Leave it on soon as the car starts and only press it to gain power climbing a steep hill when the engine revs start dropping. Also when heavy loads or towing too. Stops the vehicle going into fourth, your hear the engine revving/screaming its nuts off to let you know to turn it on again. Hope that helps👌🏻

turn O/D off in traffic jam to avoid continuously slipping between last gear and O/D to preserve tranny , hilly terrain or any situation you need engine brake . At constant speed like freeway or highway , turn it back on

Very confusin simply tell when the light blinks on speed meter what it means, OD is on or of. It is functiong and car in third gear. If no light its mean high spead and good fuel average.

I first believe you use overdrive on when climbing a hill after careful consideration and calculation i discover dat turning on the overdrive switch on an hill is very bad to the transmission cause at that point it need torque not speed so what are the gear responsible 1st,2nd 3rd it before you climb a hill you put on the overdrive not when you are on the high already everyother point you made are correct
