6:04 those lane connectors make sure cars don't go from the left-most to the right-most lane in one go (or the other way around). I think it is quite useful. (Though this specific one might have to be done better ... the two top-most lanes, which just came from the same origin, only can switch with each other?)
@tlheart5 жыл бұрын
Since you are already using traffic manager, instead of manually setting all those lane restrictions using the lane connector tool, go into the options, and turn on highway rules... traffic can only switch one lane per node, merging traffic must stay in the direct lane, no jumping across the highway.
@thesteelrodent17962 жыл бұрын
if you set the TMPE AI to medium or high, or higher, you don't need to set all that up except for very busy or complex intersections. It'll figure it out for itself to keep vehicles from blocking each other. By default it's set to low to minimize CPU load, but at that setting it's basically leaving everything up to the vanilla AI and then you need to do all the forced lane rules to make things work.

Those spaguetti highway lane connections look like they were trying to limit lane switching to one lane per node. That's exactly what Highway Rules does, and it's probably more effective since you can't accidentally mess them up. Highway Rules also prevents switches in all-highway junctions (onramps, offramps, splits and merges), which otherwise needs to be done via lane connections (as Biffa often does).

Fun times, fun times. The problem I have with cloverleaf intersections (17:35) is that they add traffic to a road right before they take traffic away. Seems like it would be far superior to do the opposite. I also really like the intersection at 18:55 because it adds traffic on one side of the road and takes it away from the other. That should theoretically greatly improve merging issues. Always a good time watching your videos. I wonder if you could include some tips and tricks for making roads smooth? A lot of times when I MoveItMod my roads they end up very "lumpy" and it's hard to make them look proper again.

About left/right slip lanes on highway intersections when those are the most used routes. If everyone is going left (or right) make that the main way, while the one straight turns into just a slip lane, this way they flow through way better. Like, instead of 3 lanes going straight and one going right, make the right one 3 lanes and the one going straight just one lane
@nanfredman19915 жыл бұрын
Ah, my City Fix fix! :D With cars hovering and criminals in their nifty orange jumpsuits marching through the air! I so look forward to this. Hey, here's a fiddly thing: I find there are Cims who park far away from their residences and then take transit or walk to some third place far away. What's with that? They're perfectly happy, but jeez. Am I doing transit wrong? It all seems to be zooming along fine by the stats.
@RailRide5 жыл бұрын
That makes me wonder if Cims driving in from outside the city would use a park-and-ride facility located outside the hightst-density region--a parking lot connected to a highway with a transit link (commuter train) direct into the heart of the city. I guess I'll just have to install the copy I bought and find out...
@nanfredman19915 жыл бұрын
@@RailRide That's a good question! I fear the AI isn't up to that kind of smarts. You could probably get them to park in a Parking Lot Roads lot next to the transit link, but would they really use it? I don't know.

"Its a computer game! Its not real life!" Such valuable words for new players. Scale and density isnt like real life so real world traffic doesnt work. But if a player wants a functional city without mods, then being creative is how to get a city rich with traffic moving freely about and alive.

One thing I noticed about the oval-about was that it was being used instead of the freeway through the stack interchange, since it was shorter than the freeway alternative and the same quality of road. I would have either downgraded the speeds of the oval-about or put in a district with a heavy traffic ban policy to make the other route more attractive to the traffic AI, so then you wouldn't have needed to finagle with the oval-about for so long!
@lowflyingdonut5 жыл бұрын
That turbine interchange asset is a good idea but the implementation is terrible, especially where the sliplanes merge 1+1->1. Needs to be 4x higways, split 2 on and 2 off, then when re-merging, join 1+1->2 and then the 2+2 back to 4 out the other side.
@codeman99-dev4 жыл бұрын
I am thinking a good majority of the traffic is on that oval-a-bout is coming off the highway, going straight through, and then getting back onto the highway. Need to force the cars to use the next highway-to-highway interchange. Looking at 0:40 that definitely seems to be the case.

@Biffa I noticed you've been doing a lot of Traffic Fixes so I made a city that can use some Beautification/added parks/university or some Massive Transit work. I do have Bike Lanes and Metros but that's about it since I am not very good at making all of them work together. Feel free to do 2 videos (1 Beautification, 1 park/university tutorial, and 1 mass transit tutorial or whichever you'd prefer) or you can combine them into one. - The city has no mods so you will see some weird mathematical lanes to try and keep the traffic going but feel free to use your mods if it'll make it easier for you. - Bike lanes are almost every road since the cims will bike really far distances. - The bridges are really high across the water because I did not like the fact the ships were sailing right through them, you can tweak them if you wish. - I do have 1 park in the area where I started but the area was too small so there is not a lot going on with it. - There are also some random memorial buildings... I think they're called, that I placed everywhere to build the space elevator so feel free to move those as well. - I do have Random Disasters turned on but I set it so that there is a very small chance of them occurring I will be keeping this city and using it as a guide for other helpful developments and probably when I use the 81 tiles mod and Traffic manager but building a city in vanilla along with watching your videos has helped me a lot. Thank you, Biffa and I look forward to seeing what you can do with this city 🙂👍💖 Edit: Forgot to add the link, can't work without that LOL! steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1794499395

TL;DR just remove 1 lane everytime there's a split and add 1 lane everytime there's merging 13:00 what do you mean you cannot use lane mathematics? For lane that go from left to right, when the lane split off to right/straight, downgrade lane going straight to 2 lanes. After that they are split to left/straight, downgrade lane going straight to 1 lane. After that downgrade/upgrade to 2 lanes when there's merging lane from right. Lastly go back to 3 lanes after merging lane from the right (again)

12:17 that roundabout is useless, it has a road going into it, then exiting at another road, instead of just being a straight a to b line Also, avoid having a roundabout at the highway exit. They will stop to give priority to the inner cars, and so will start to back up the highway exit and the highway itself as a consequence.

Hey Biffa. What i´v seen...your lane management at 6:08. I´ve done this too so like you to let the AI figure it out on its own BUT very often the cars start terrible lane switching after the intersection to get to there final lane for the next intersection. That brakes down the lane speed till near zero. What caught my eyes in your video is that the cars while switching the lanes dont collide. They merge together and go parallel something like this. In my Game they never do this. They stand still and move one after an onther. Do you have any special options for this? Thanks alot! :D
@ExcalibursZone5 жыл бұрын
I see that you reached into your bag of Biffistry and pulled out the Biffmatics hammer on this one! Great tips on this one :) I would say the act of fixing traffic in a map (by you) would be termed Biffistration. "I Biffistrated this map." "Let's get down to some Biffistration!" "I've spent the past 20 hours Biffistrating this horky-borky interchange system..." and so on ;)
