Steve Winwood is an amazing talent, he was lead singer for the Spencer Davis group when he was 14! (He had been performing on stage since was 8) He went on to help form Traffic and Blind Faith by the time he reached his early 20s. Singer, songwriter, multi instrument musician, a truly gifted individual that made the most of his talents. I have nothing but respect and admiration for him, and the rest of Traffic were pretty damn good too.

Around 1970, Jim Capaldi was in Morocco with actor Michael J Pollard working on a film project named "Nevertheless". They spent much of their time talking music and bouncing weird ass plot ideas off of each other. One day Pollard scribbled "The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys" in Capaldi's notebook. The film imploded on itself before filming began, but at least it gave us the title to a classic song that was a staple of free form FM stations for years after its initial release in late 1971.

Grech had previously worked with Traffic singer/multi-instrumentalist Steve Winwood in the short-lived supergroup Blind Faith while Gordon had played with another former Blind Faith member, Eric Clapton, in the similarly short-lived Derek and the Dominos. When Winwood says Heil boys it conveys the darkness that crept into the British rock scene . The music exec gets capped for ripping off the high heeled boys . The seedy side of the music biz . Clarification as to what people theorize/debate is "that one thing being played" in the song (* what I always thought was the answer)... From an interview in Contemporary Keyboard June 1981: Bob Doerschuk: One of your earliest synthesizer solos was on the title cut of The Low Spark Of High-Heeled Boys, with that buzzy tone. Or was that a saxophone going through a fuzz-tone*? Steve Winwood: Actually, it was an organ through a fuzz-box. BD: Fooled me twice! SW: Yes! but I think that was the idea. We had been looking for something like synths for a long time, I suppose. I wish they had been around ten years ago. I suppose they were, actually.

When you think Steve was playing live in bars @ 14 , was having hits with Spencer Davis @ 16, with Blind Faith @18, then with Traffic then a solo career - as a talented multi instrumentalist etc he's in a rare category - maybe only Prince and Todd Rundgren come close
