I am referring to Cyprus, which was plagued by civil war and then invasion by Turkey which has resulted into de facto partition of the small island into a Greek Cypriot speaking larger portion and tinier Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.-recognised only by Turkey. Another not so funny fact. During the Mandal case hearing, advocates appearing for pro-reservation parties had cited Cyprus as an example to follow. But the judges of the Supreme Court observed that Cyprus had also faced a civil war and division. These were oral observations and are are not part of the judgment but the interchange between lawyers and the judges was reported by the press.

This is the one reason why partition was only way out. Only nonpracticing abrahamic faith adherents, or dharmic eastern civilization adherents can be secular or democratic. We this throughout the world, or ethnically homogenous. We see this even within our northeast in nagaland, people often underplay the impact of religion in destabilizing the state. Had we offered Jinnah the prime ministership, we e would have Lebanon 20x , fractured forever poor and having clamorous call for sharia to be implemented . So contrary to populist versions of Shashi tarroor asking for reparations, the British did a favor by partitioning India and in a way amputating gangrenous arm and saving civilization body.

Where ever these peacefuls are in abundance there will be Chaos… unless you call it it won’t be stoped…. In India we lost our land before and we still continue to do the same mistake…. Now it is inevitable someday when they have even 30% of population, more chaos will be there… they will expand….

Very appropriate to have picked up this topic for this talk. The issues of human identity and there on tribe identity and there on caste (in India / creed elsewhere) identity has always been a sour point of co-existence. A modern sophisticated society has to understand this and be able to exist above this idea. Thank you for the talk.

In happier times, Beirut was "the Paris of the Middle East", both as a financial centre and as a tourist destination. The growing/ exporting of illegal recreational drugs and the mass importing of used Mercedes sedans were just modern outgrowths of the ancient expertise in foreign trading that had lasted for thousands of years.

That title was given to any number of cities... and it's just romanticizing bullshit. Neither are drugs the problem. The problem was always religious sectarianism which was used by external powers that were fighting proxy wars in countries like Lebanon. The only rational response of a citizen of such a country is to leave and to apply for political asylum in a rationally governed country... which the intelligent people did, of course. The resulting brain drain eventually finishes these countries off completely, economically, culturally and politically. The success of a society is determined by its top 1%, whether we like this or not. Societies that lose that resource are doomed. They descend into cycles of needless violence... like Lebanon and Palestine.

SG sir why go to Lebonan to learn about failure or death of political confessionalism.. Make your legal reporters read about the case in Madras High court between a Hindu activists vs government of TN on the speech by Minister Udayanithi Stalin on eradication of Sanathanam. The submission made by lawyer/MP Wilson 20 pages with 40 points clears when Sanathana could not win votes comes to courts. It is fascinating and thought provoking.

Woww... simply woww. Very very good content and articulated brilliantly. Jiski jitni aabadi utne unki hissedaari. This video should also be watched from the Lok Sabha delimitation point of view as well. If the South states feel victimized, nothing stops them to roll up their sleeves and get down to "business". They will definitely incentivise population growth and prepare for the next delimitation possible another 20-25 yrs time. Viola... we need a new Parliament building then. Jokes aside... this video should be watched and pondered upon by the law makers.

With malice to none. It would seem from various media reports (including The Print) that India has a lesson to learn from whatever is happening in the world whenever with whoever and the media and experts will teach her. Tailpiece: A bit intriguing and bordering on preposterous.

Hi SG, I usually love your videos but this seems to be a very superficial understanding of Lebanon. The political situation in Lebanon is not comparable to that of India. Political instability in Lebanon is a mix of sectarian divisions, corruption, economic mismanagement, syrian refugee crisis and most importantly regional interference by Iran, Israel, Saudi, western countries

The idea of 'jiski jitni abadi uska utna haq' is only with reference to reservation which is capped at 50 percent. Though even this idea for reservation is also flawed, it's certainly not what you seem to suggest.
@AmitKumarAlphaX Жыл бұрын
SG, YOU NEED TO READ THIS.🙏🙏 👇👇👇👇 AGAIN A VERY UNPOLISHED VIEW POINT OF "JISKI JITNI ABAADI, USKA UTNA HAQ". BECAUSE BY "JISKI JITNI ABAADI USKA UTNA HAQ", WE AREN'T SAYING THAT THE POSITION OF THE PRESIDENT SHOULD BE RESERVED FOR SCs, POSITION OF PM FOR STs & THAT OF THE SPEAKER FOR OBCs. THIS IS ABOUT THE PARTICIPATION OF LOWER CASTES IN THE MACHINERIES OF THE STATE. WE'RE SAYING THAT WHY DO SC-ST-OBCs WITH A 85% POPULATION HAVE ONLY 10% OF GROUP A POSTS, ONLY 20% OF GROUP B POSTS & ONLY 40% OF GROUP C & D POST?? WHY DOES AN AVERAGE GENERAL CATEGORY PERSON HOLD 3 TIMES THE LAND OF AN AVERAGE DALIT?? WHY DO THE 10% GENERAL CATEGORY HAVE CONTROL OVER ALL THE RESOURCES OF THIS COUNTRY??? WHY DO THE 85% SC-ST-OBCs HAVE LESS THAN 5% REPRESENTATION IN THE MEDIA?? WHY DO THE SC-ST-OBCs HAVE MINISCULE PORTION OF PRIVATE SECTOR LEADERSHIP POSITIONS??? SHEKHAR, WE HAVE A HISTORY OF THOUSANDS OF YEARS OF DISCRIMINATIONS & PRIVILEGES BASED ON CASTE. THAT'S HOW THIS GAP HAS BEEN CREATED BETWEEN SC-ST-OBCs & GENERALs. "JISKI JITNI ABAADI, USKA UTNA HAQ" HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH LEBANON. LEBANON DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A CASTE SYSTEM OF HISTORICAL DISCRIMINATIONS. SO, IT'S TIME YOU STOP STRETCHING IT SO FAR. IT'S BECOMING RIDICULOUS. IT'S THE SECOND TIME YOU'VE EQUATED LEBANON'S SYSTEM TO THE DEMANDS OF REPRESENTATION BY SC-ST-OBCs. IT'S KILLING ME TO SEE A JOURNALIST LIKE YOU, WHO I ADMIRE SO DEEPLY, TALK ABOUT THIS IN SUCH AN ABSURD FASHION.💔💔💔💔💔
