That choke that Al did was 100% an RNC (Rear Naked Choke) which is a blood choke. It does not break the neck when done correctly, but only stops the flow of blood to the head, knocking the victim out of consciousness. Brain damage will only occur if the attacker continues to squeeze well after their victim has lost consciousness. The sides of the neck are squeezed to block the corotid arteries. Probably the most famous choke is the RNC or otherwise known as sleeper hold. Any grappling art like Judo, BJJ, wrestling will teach some variation this submission choke.

I respect that Scar recognizes that nothing he says to Winry is going sound like anything other than an excuse. Because yes, there were a lot of factors behind Scar's murder of her parents: he had been living in a war zone for months, he had just seen his family killed, he was in huge amounts of pain, he had just discovered his brother's arm had been transplanted onto him, etc. But as Scar said, at the end of the day, he's still responsible for killing them, and nothing he says or does will bring them back or make it right.

19:28 Yes, that is not how you suffocate someone, but that is how you can knock someone out. Interrupt the blood flow between the neck and your head for a few seconds (which you can do with a quick motion or a pronlonged grapple), and you have a good chance of knocking someone out temporarily. It requires some knowledge to know where exactly you need to press down and for how long to do it right, which can be slightly different from person to person, and if done wrong, it usually just doesnt work... but if done correctly, you can actually manage to knock someone out like that.

This episode really shows Scar has changed imo. Before he would be all about killing Ed and Al just because they're alchemists. Now when Ed confronts Scar, he says "i will kill you IF you try and stop me". And is much less aggressive and more hesitant to fight. His heart isn't in it any more to just kill alchemists since he learned the truth of it all, which is major growth from the start.

Yoki's tale was in the 2003 anime, though the B&W film style here does a good job summing it up (from Yoki's hilariously erroneous perspective). You don't really need the full thing to go on, but it's a fun watch.

FMA (where the manga was not finished, Has a different plot, different characters) and FMAB, (Anime made after the manga was finished.) what you are watching now. Yoki's story takes place in FMA. Sadly in FMAB they just assume everyone watched the older series. I highly recommend watching it after Brotherhood. It is not the same show.

One thing I really dislike, is how Crunchyroll and all these other sites don't have subtitles for the text-only gags and stuff, so Mustang thinking "Here comes that pest" back in Episode 1 or the story here - first-time viewers get none of the context. The context's only given through viewers who inform 'em, or if you're watching the DvD's which actually do subtitle those moments.

An aspect of the chimera soldiers we see that I never see anyone talk about, is the simple fact that they exist, and are implied to have existed for a while. Meaning the military didn’t truly need to research the subject any more, making what happened to the baby and dog even more tragic, as it was truly pointless in every regard.

@9:05 This is one of the reasons I recommend people watch _Fullmetal Alchemist_ (2003), _Fullmetal Alchemist: Conqueror of Shamballa_ (2005), and *then* _Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood_ . Yeah, the _first_ anime adaptation strays pretty far from the manga canon, with their own original ending. That anime was completed before the manga was finished, and it shows *both in good **_and_** bad ways.* It couldn't rush through the early part of the story, because that was all they had! XD I also get it; lots of folks *just don't care about that.* I only feel the need to voice my opinion on this subject so frequently because at least _some_ people do better watching the older series and _then_ the newer. Now I just need to read the manga to see if that should come before either, in between the two anime series, or after them all...

Easy. The military made it seem to the public like Tucker's research was a groundbreaking experiment, when the reality is, the human-based chimera project been completed a long time ago. Remember what Greed told Alphonse. The government hides things and lies to the public. Remember when Envy announced to last that Tucker had been killed and Lust was completely unconcerned and called him a "nothing?" They knew even back then that Tucker was a third-rate alchemist who was not even on the list of potential candidates for human sacrifice, even though he is a certified state alchemist.

Yeah, though interestingly May's voice actress Monica Rial got to play an original character who stood in as Yoki's assistant and later became a major player in the anime. Monica used her deeper voice for that role (she is quite versatile).

Dayum, now that i think abt it, i see how lame and straightforward the remake was. It's fine skipping unimportant fillers, the original was indeed too long. But dang, some of them were funny as shit. The one where they found Hayate and were training him as an Edward#2 A.K.A. a military lapdog, the one where Al kept stray cats in his armor out of pity, the one with Catherine and Havoc... Not to mention some characters are different from the original, since ----- here is actually ------ in the original version, and ------ wasn't actually a --- but instead was -----'s -------

The 2003 anime is an acid trip. The stuff the studio came up with when the story split off from the manga is not nearly as good as Brotherhood. Kind of interesting, but way inferior to Brotherhood's masterful storytelling.
