Whenever there’s a conversation about the greatest guitarist in history you can’t have it without mentioning Carlos Santana. Santana developed a rock n’ roll sound that was distinctly his own in the '60s and '70s.
He combined blues melodies with Latin American and African percussion instruments that at the time were not typically heard in rock music. His innovative style and signature guitar sound have made him a rock n’ roll legend and one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
But his rise to the top wasn’t all smooth sailing. Santana’s life was filled with heartache and tragedy. Here are the details.

I have been listening to Carlos Santana since I was a teenager (70 now). I've always wanted to see him in concert but something always happens. Well again I was suppose to see him in Vegas for our 50th ANNIVERSARY and it was cancelled. I'm really sorry to hear about brother Gorge. He was a great musician. My condolences to family. I understand about this virus. Be safe an stay healthy. Lord bless you.

Carlos Santana is like many people who have the strength to live with the blessing of empathy. Humbling, when you can use the pain as fuel to drive forward positive inspiration and greatness. Dealing with emotion is one thing this man knows. He has helped so many people with his art, people he has never met. He has touched many lives. A great man.

Saw Santana when he was just getting recognized, in San Francisco. I was displaying, as a craftsman at the San Francisco city hall basement, and came to find out it was really a rock concert labeled as a craft show. I think the year was about 1969. Since I had leatherwork and made to order straps and belts, I did rather well. From then on they held the craft fairs outside. Was accepted to San Francisco arts guild which made it easy to get into following shows. Sold quite a few items to Santana band, and heard music that was not out to the public. Great day, and had nice chats with all the band members.

It is sad to hear that "one" of my favorite artist had passed away. I still recall the local band where I grew up back between 1950's and 1980's, heard them (the local band of Anglos) play Soul Sacrifice one day and I was immediately hooked by Carlos' guitar ability. He brought me closer to being a guitarist back in the early days of astonishing bands and their tunes. I still to this day can recall hearing the great tone of Soul Sacrifice, in today's life. Long will I remember a great guitarist = "Carlos Santana!"

I saw Carlos many times forming in the seventies. He was always great and inspirational. I hope things are going better for him now. I hate that he had the pear with another band to get any kind of recognition. I wish you blessed day and a blessed life Carlos

This was good. I didn't know these things. Such a musical giant. So much of his soul pours out of the great notes that he has left for the world to remember him by.

Carlos makes the notes float off the fret board and they just hang in the air. It is truly other worldly. Thank you Carlos.

Remembered the first time he came to Ghana in 1969 to perform alongside Wilson Pickett, Ike and Tina Turner, Roberta Flack, Pop Staple and the Staple Singers, Voices of East Harlem, Willie Bobo, Amoah Azangio and a host of other celebrities in the gala concert titled 'Soul to Soul'. A day I will never forget in my life.

Sampson Djonorh LOVE the film of that concert, though it, unfortunately, is very hard to find. Were you there? Must have been one hellova show to see live, in person.

@@MsAppassionata I was in my early twenties in Secondary School at Ebenezer Accra. My parents allowed a few of my brothers and sisters who were of age including my cousins from Takoradi to go to the Independence Square and watch that memorable 18 hour show. First time something of this nature happened on the African continent. I was fortunate to lay hands on the movie that came out later which I also cherish so much. Kudos to all the people who helped put this thing together. 👏❤✌
