A crazy detail left out from Mary and Darnley’s marriage is that Darnley murdered the aforementioned David Rizzio right in front of Mary during a meal, suspecting that she was pregnant with David’s child. This murder directly led to his downfall and later death at Kirk o’field.

Yes. Yet another crazier detail is still left out from your add on. Lord Darnley was ACTUALLY the one sleeping with David Rizzio, not Mary. And, James, her son, looked just like his father, Lord Darnley. Just J U S T like him! So, he was wrong, and i believe he knew far better

Along with all the illegitimate half-siblings, Mary actually had two legitimate older brothers who died as young children. If even one of them had lived, her life might have gone very differently.

Also, I believe she was innocent -a figurehead of rebellions that weren't of her making. Also also, her last request was to have her body sent back to France and interred beside that of her first husband, who was the only one of the three who had actually loved her. Elizabeth refused.

Mary was a pawn for power hungry men. She was setup for failure by her brothers and by Bothwell. Her marriage to Bothwell was likely forced and she had been raped. I have written a novel about Mary, Queen of Scots where she is interviewed by a time traveling historian. He ultimately falls in love with her and vows to save her from the axe... which he ultimately does. Mary was rescued and moved to a convent in France where she lived another 50 years. One day I hope to finish it and get it properly published.

“Mary, Mary quite contrary how does your garden grow? With cockle shells and silver bells and pretty maids all in a row.” The garden refers to growing cemeteries, as she filled them with Protestants. Silver bells and cockle shells were instruments of torture and the maiden was a device used to behead people. This saying was applicable to either Mary Queen of Scott’s or Mary Tudor the Catholic Queen of England.

It’s so difficult to tell what the true character of powerful women figures were, since sooooo much of recorded history was written from the male perspective. Mary Queen of Scots was probably very anti-English, as there were divisions in Wales and Scotland that made relations with England tenuous at best. Given that she was relaxed about having Protestant relatives at court, her resistance to the throne was likely purely anti-English sentiment. Of course, being crowned as a baby probably made her susceptible to the ethics and politics of her advisory from an early age. She likely wanted to carry out her father’s wishes politically, continuing a stronger relationship with France. France was literally always knocking down English sovereignty, any chance they could get, especially during and after King Henry the VIII. I suspect the rivalry between Mary of Scotland and Elizabeth I, was a continuation of deep-rooted rivalry between their daddy’s. Daddy isssues and power = plenty of baskets with heads in them 😊
