I was watching a Swoop doc the other day and saw a sample of what the gender based violence that women experience while playing video games. As soon as a woman spoke one word while playing she was subjected to a horrific torrent of misogynistic insults from all directions. Boys and men were stomping all over each other to insult her physically and sexually and threaten her safety. There are thousands of videos online showing this.

Yes, I truly believe it is so! Some gamers put in their whole lives and their 24/7 obsessed into the games day in and day out, soon they couldn’t tell fantasy verses reality. The killing machines in the games taken over their rational minds and beliefs, acting out in real life is the next step! Sad!! 🥲

This was so sad. Ilona had worked for my friend before she took the job she had at the mall. My friend was devastated when this happened. I went to her vigil on the beach. She seemed like a lovely person. I brought her mom flowers. I was shocked when I saw her picture on the screen. I never got to meet her but she was very loved by those who knew her.

How horrific and senseless! Thank you for the depth you go to bring these victims to life for us! These young people had their lives stolen from them bc they happened to be at that mall at that time. When my son was murdered I as told he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Is there a right place to be murdered?? The young men’s’ mother’s poems and words brought me to tears. I lost one son. I can’t imagine losing both along with a future daughter in law!! I can’t imagine Aluna’s mother’s grief losing her firstborn child and her first husband! I have absolute no sympathy for the killer whatsoever!

Thank you so much for telling this story. It’s gripping as all your reporting is. This one is especially disturbing due to random nature of the killing of the victims and the killings being separated in time. Also the apprehension of the killer was rather random. Kudos to the border patrol officers who picked up on something suspicious and reported it to other law enforcement who followed up.

Such a tragic and truly scary case given how random it was. So scary that a random encounter with a psychopath ended the life of 3 innocent people, and the coward didn’t even have the heart to explain himself or apologize.
