Well done. Being nudged out of your comfort zone is a good thing. My riding buddy does the same all the time, and I've learned a lot.

If anything sucks about getting older,it's exactly as you described. I try to live with age being just a number but the apprehension does sneak in and cause some fear from time. Thanks for excellent thought provoking video with beautiful scenery!

We just don't bounce back from falling like when we were kids. I never used to think about it. Sigh...

Thanks for sharing your rides. We no longer live in that area, so it’s nice to be able to see the forest service roads that we used to love to ride.

Excellent ride and great advise about the "apprehension factor"! Drone aerials were fantastic. Skydio was the best choice for your lifestyle. Crashing into the river not a good idea...avoid that experience, as silica gel won't help. At first I thought your fellow rider was Mrs. Troutdog, but you cleared that up promptly. Good job!!! 😎

The drone footage is great. You guys have some gorgeous places to ride. 4:00 - It's always much hairier than it appears in the video I appreciate your old man introspection and reflection. It speaks to me. I need to get out more and live.

Thanks! It's frustrating that the camera flattens everything. Lol, honest it was really steep!

@@troutdogadventures7751 - I made some white water kayaking videos like that. When I was down in it, it looked like big water on the White Nile. Post the videos and it looks like a no class creek with a few little ripples in the kiddie pool. *Brilliant Marketing Idea **#7488** -* Hero Mode on the GoPro Hero camera that uses a smart digital filter to make hills look steeper, rocks and ruts look larger and closer, etc.

Excellent presentation! You do in fact have the skills to ride that hill! Do you feel you'd have had an easier time climbing the rutted hill on your CRF300L?

Great question! I wouldn't have thought twice about it. My skill wouldn't have been any different, but I'd have no worries about picking up the bike. The big AT with luggage and gear... makes me nervous and cautious.

Nice video brother, it’s nice to have a local boy with a channel I can watch. I’m brand new to Overland but hope to finally get out on some dirt roads soon. At least it’s a start. And what you’re saying about apprehension very much explains me. I’ve always been pretty reserved and not too willing to take chances. But often that has kept me from opportunities and fun times. Now I’m pushing 50 and fortunately I’ve overcame a lot of that. Always working on it though! And how do you like that African twin? It sure is a good looking bike. Seems like it’s quite popular these days with the overland crowd

Thank you for watching! Love the AT. It's been perfect for the road/dirt mix I like. At my age I definitely need other folks around to encourage pushing the comfort zone.

With Bell Internet you too can watch this video in 480p! Apprehension of the unknown is normal for guys that get older. It's not that we can't climb that steep gravel pit hill, it just becomes so that we lose the desire to with each passing year. I have the same bike as you, about to leave on a 27 day trip, have the same apprehensive feelings but it's all about bucket lists man! Live wisely, but don't live in fear. Loved the video.

Love the ride!! Video NEVER shows the true steepness of the inclines or the nasty nature of the textured surfaces. I can appreciate that your experience was much more harrowing than the video belied!
