Brilliant!! Great and fun video to watch! Glad you got out there to do some training and see some of the trails there! I'll also be there for the 128k in a few weeks time! I was a finisher in 2017 (my first ultra run finish) - and I totally remember Tejeda and Roque Nublo areas! Hoping for another awesome run!

I had the same leakage issues on the old salomon soft flasks, i'd definitely recommend getting the speedflasks, not had any issues at all since upgrading the original ones

Yeah.. the new ones don't really fit in my pack... its' super annoying.. I'll buy a new pack when they make the larger packs work with the newer bottles. As the new ones are MUCH better! Thanks Jospeh!

Cool vid man and good luck at TGC! One thing that caught me off guard last year was the 11pm start. I was sleep walking at 27k...had to nap at 38k? Overslept anf missed the cutoff at artenarra. Something I did differently at Istria a few months later was nap during the day, and eat breakfast a few hours before the run. Ill be back to get my jacket at TGC next year hopefully!

Hey Michael! It's something I'm worried about too.. it will be new to me starting at 11pm for sure. I'm planning a few night runs in the up coming weeks, but running out of time a bit now. Will certainly try and turn by body clock around a bit in the days leading up to the race.. probably a lot easier said than done. Hopefully see you back at TGC next year! All the best and thank you for the comment and advice!

Awesome content coming out atm Ben loving it! One quick question I do have... I've been training more on trails lately, think you'll agree it's addictive!! I've been following your advice from a previous video about recovery runs & keeping my heart rate low for the bulk of my training. But I find it spikes fairly high when I'm out on the trails is it worth slowing the pace or walking for a bit when the heart rate goes high (above 170) or is there value in pushing through..?
@BenParkes5 жыл бұрын
For me I just look at the average HR at the end. HR will always go up a lot when climbing, but then drop right down on the decent. So I wouldn't worry too much. That works for me anyway!

@@BenParkes That makes sense! I'll give it a whirl this week on the trails! Thanks for getting back to me, keep up the awesome work 👍

Nice vid! What fields are u usually having on ur watch during long trail runs?
@BenParkes5 жыл бұрын
Usually just the map screen with average pace and distance to go. But on a second screens I'll have elevation / distance / elapsed time / battery / sun set / elevation to go / then have the elevation screen, which on the Garmin is really good.

Are you using the DJI Pocket or Hero 7 more for this video?
@BenParkes5 жыл бұрын
Hero 7 for all the talking to camera bits while running.. The DJI only gets used for the chasing running bits.. as it's more stable. The fisheye lens on the Hero 7 makes it much better for running and talking.. just get much more in the shot.

Looks fabulous Ben - bet it felt amazing too! Also - good to see the nuts for refueling - have you looked into fat-adaptation for ultra-running?
@BenParkes5 жыл бұрын
Hey Alice.. I have and did try it when I ate meat a few years ago. It didn't really work for me to be honest.. and now it would be almost impossible being plant based. So just try and get a good balance of everything in my diet and find that works well.
@piperalice5 жыл бұрын
@@BenParkes Cool! I'm asking because my hubby is an ultra runner & he's very keen on the advice found in the uphill athlete book - and it's interesting to see what other runners, who are training for long distance, eat! (...being nosey, I suppose! 😂!)
@BenParkes5 жыл бұрын
It certainly has a lot of merit, but like all diets really.. it won't suit everyone. My plant based diet now won't suit everyone either.. we are all so different! I'll be filming a what I eat in a day video tomorrow.. and there will no doubt be some 'healthy' fats in the mix throughout the day, but also plenty of carbs as well. Great if LCHF works for your hubby,. Primal Endurance and the Primal Blueprint are great books if he's looking for some more reading material!
@piperalice5 жыл бұрын
@@BenParkes oh great - I'll look forward to that! I agree about everyone being different. I'm not sure his methodology is quite the same as a normal hflc diet, but the amount of avacados and nut butters we get through is crazy! (Should really buy some shares in these!! 😂)!! (I may be wrong about the book - it might be Training for New Alpinism - I can't remember!) Anyway, thanks for the awesome videos!
