In this second episode of Trail Signs, I’m Joined by Mark from ‪@tridudyonthetrail‬ as we talk about his love for Type 2 fun. The kind of fun that sucks in the moment, but will make for a great story down the road. Sound crazy? Well we’re backpackers so that goes without saying. Join us for a trip down harsh memory lane and then swing over to ‪@tridudyonthetrail‬, it’s one of my favorites! Thanks Mark for the great fun!

I remember Mark’s adventures on the adventure hiking trail. It was epic when they crossed the river 😳.

We met Mark on the JRV last year, nice guy. Most memorable type two fun was when we got soaked in 40mph wind on Lake Superior on a 40 degree day. We were feezing and huddled in pit toilet for a little while. Got to camp and stripped down and got in our quilts. Boots never dried out and introduced my wife to using baggies inside of boots. Trail runners from then in.

Yes Mark is a great guy! That is an awesome type 2 fun story. I had something very similar happen to me in pictured rocks in Michigan. Had freezing fog and mist roll and I was leading a group from a boys camp and we ended up setting up our tent in a picnic area to wait it out. Everyone had blue lips from the cold.

This was a fun conversation. It's cool to hear stories like these. I had a type 2 fun situation that was poop related. Thinking back, yeah it's still wasn't fun 😆 Definitely lessons were learned.

This was really cool to watch! Just can't say enough about how amazing it is to see my old friend show up in these great videos...as a %100 witness to Mark's Philmont experience I can tell you all that he is a champion of dealing with type 2 experiences as he was the bulwark of at least my confidence with his kindness and cheerfulness towards me as the smallest and youngest crew member on that trip...also...the lightning coming back from the Tooth on Shaefer's Mt. was some of the most intense moments of my outdoor experiences; hope you get a chance to expand on that more some day. This was a sweet format and discussion and I sub'd to hope to see more like it! Thank you both so much.

Wow, thank you so much for the kind words and sub. Yes I can definitely see mark being the guy that motivates everyone to keep pulling on. He just has that positive, supportive personality and just seems like a joy to be around. Yes, the lighting we saw on the tooth of time ridge was intense so I can’t even imagine what it was like for you guys!
