Love to watch tarp set ups........Dave you made it realy simple with trucker hitches........that is one knot I can always tie. Very well done and simplified, especially on the hammock part. So I actually did a 4x6 tarp into a hammock and did it right before watching this on my own.....nice. thank you.

Dave, you are one of the coolest people on KZbin. I, and probably others, asked for these tarp videos and you made them. Just like that. I can't thank you enough for taking the time to listen to your viewers and make great, informative videos. Thanks man! God bless.

Thanks David....love the second setup. I love the truckers loop. I recently was turned on to the automatic truckers loop where you drop your line through the loop and then run it through a 2nd time. Now when you pull to tighten it stays tight while you tie in your slip knot. Kind of like a prusik but with just two wraps....the second wrap locks the the line. To undo it just drop the line back through the loop and give it a tug....the whole thing falls apart.

I have a Hennessy Hammock and I am very happy with it, It costs more than the setup Dave has but is complete, hammock, rainfly, net, tree straps, and tie outs. I do like some of the knots Dave uses better than the ones they use so I am looking forward to trying them out. Thanks for the great tips as always Dave! Something off subject Dave, have you ever made waxed canvas items? Would like too see your method if you have, love your vids and reviews, stay real brother!

you have some awesome tutorials, many thanks for all the great information! Quick question about the first knot for the hammock hook: if you have the kind of friends I grew up with, that quick release tag would just be too irresistible to give a good yank on for whoever was unlucky enough to fall asleep first....if the weight of the hammock hook is already on there, could it still be quick released if someone tugged hard enough, or would the weight of the hammock keep it tied?

Dave, Using rope to tie up a Hammock will damage the tree, as evidence shows at 11:08. Use tree huggers, (a piece of webbing). It will even the load so there is no scaring. I would also use a ridge line under the fly. That way if it snows the tarp will not be on top of you.

@tookieblueeyesoutdoors12 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I screwed up the left knee and had my hip repaired and because i didn't want to give up getting out I went out and purchased a good hammock to replace the old one since i highly doubt getting down on hands and knees to crawl into a tent or tarp shelter will be good because I don't want to get down and not be able to drag my ass back up, especially if I am out alone. I hope you get better soon cdlpx.
@mrbr54912 жыл бұрын
I can tell you have a lot of experience at doing this. The only thing I would ask is that when you are demonstrating how to tie the knots, that you slow down. I'm sure you can do them in your sleep, but some of us need to see it a lot slower for it to sink in. Thanks for showing us what you have learned.
@Cannonbo12 жыл бұрын
i ve seen ppl put a piece of rope around a tree and hang the pack from it with a carabiner. what i tend to do is just put the raincover over the pack and lay it upside down (so with the raincover towards the ground) under my tarp, right next to the hammock. this also gives you a platform to put gear on within arms reach.

Hey Dave, will the pathfinder tarp cover the Treklite double hammock? Or will I need to go larger? I love your wealth of great information! Thanks for your efforts!

Dave, Do you think a bigger tarp would help in overhead protection? Like a screen behind to protect from the wind? What do you think of building a small fire to add heat into the shelter? I am looking forward in camping this year with my hammock system, so I am getting some suggestions. Thanks for all your videos and suggestions. By the way, what are the dimednsions of the haversack? Thanks, your friend, Jeffrey

Love your videos, I'm watching all of them. Ive camped alone in the woods on a few occasions, in bear country, and sleeping that way is hard, your mind senses some danger and you cannot fall asleep...aside from the usual things, like keeping ones food far away from the sleeping spot, how can one deal with the psychology of fear of bears when one is about to sleep near the bears home? Would a certain type of shelter be best, or maybe a tripwire to alert u of 4-legged intruders?

Hey Dave, why don't you use a prusik knot for the tarp, isnt that strong enough maybe? The reason i ask that it seems easier to adjust the tarp when using a prusik, but i dont want my tarp to blow away in the night of course :)

Keeping it simple. End of story. Thanks for your insight. Run cordage through a leather washer to prevent rain from running down lines or tie a string around cordage, easy fix.

First your videos are a life lesson in any of them been watching you for yrs. Great vids. I have a question. I bought a Kelty Noah's 16x16 tarp thinking it would be good for the extra length. I was very wrong it is waaaay too big for even my double Eno hammock. What tarp do you use for that hammock??
@northof50now12 жыл бұрын
Hi all. Dave has done a video on knots. I see there are more than a few asking about it. Simply type "camp knots" in the search bar on the Pathfinder Channel. It will be the only video that comes up. Hope this helps.
@bwillan12 жыл бұрын
With using such low breaking strength cord to hang your hammock, you should try and get the angle the rope makes with the horizontal close to 30 degrees. This will reduce the force on the ropes to your body weight. Switching to a low stretch cord or webbing like polyester would be much better too. If your going to carry a special cord to hang the hammock, might as well use webbing as it damages the tree bark less.
@warewolf24012 жыл бұрын

The slip knot for the hammock attachment is a great alternative. Since I started hammock camping with the boy scouts in the past year, I found one that might help also, and seems to work well, it's called a Siberian Hitch. Let me know how it works for you.

dave, one question about hammocks and overhanging tarps. Ive never tried the set up like that, but it seems that in a rainstorm, the ropes/lines would allow water to "follow" the ropes and work its way/drip right down into the hammock. Are these set ups mainly to keep overnight dew off you? It seems that they would NOT be the best option in the rain....am I correct, or overlooking something??

Dave, for attaching to the tree you might want to think about trying some webbing instead of rope, its lighter in weight, and would take up less room in your bag, and it won't damage the tree.
