How do you catch something so quickly?? Every time I ever went fishing I had to sit there for at least 10 minutes before anything happened. Anyways, glad to see you're making videos again! I haven't been on youtube in a while
@TrailChaser9 жыл бұрын
***** Thanks, glad you're back on tha tube. About catching them quickly...It's because I'm throwing the bait directly to them once I see them. It's actually more like hunting in the sense that deer hunters don't just go shoot randomly in the woods and hope to hit something. I could totally go out there blind and just cast a live mullet and eventually one of those reds would find it, but I like to find them instead. The shallow & clear water, the sun, and polarized sunglasses make spotting them possible. Lots of times I see them because they will have their dorsal fin above the surface and half their tail out of the water. The reason those reds are in that shallow of water is because they are eating the finger mullet that are trying to hide. I use a live mullet that can't hide because it's on my hook.

Hey man I just bought a kayak like 1 hr ago cause you inspired me to start kayak fishing :)
@TrailChaser8 жыл бұрын
+EverythingOutdoors That's awesome, be sure to learn re-entry in deep water. I swear, modern stable kayaks hardly ever flip...when they do it's usually really fast and unexpected. I went over once in my Stealth. I was pushing my anchor pole into the ground. It went from hard to push, to super soft..next thing I know, I'm wondering what the hell I'm doing underwater and how I got there. I come up and see the bottom of my yak and stuff floating around. It was warm, so I didn't even stop fishing. Get yourself a good comfy neoprene type pfd.(lifejacket) Get one made with lots of pockets and a high back float to clear the backrest of the seat in your kayak. Here's the one I've been using for about a year now. smile.amazon.com/Coleman-Hybrid-Fishing-Paddle-Vest/dp/B00IIMGO5W/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1457837885&sr=8-10&keywords=stearns+fishing+pfd

@TrailChaser8 жыл бұрын
+CarlosR I got the idea from some other video. Basically, you just take a regular stringer from academy and modify it. The lock is just a piece of pvc pipe with two holes drilled in it. I made a new one recently, and used a longer needle. With the longer needle I don't have to double lock it anymore.

really nice job on the vid man. Fishing skills are great. The fist stringer sux. Get a chain one from walmart. Much easier.
@TrailChaser9 жыл бұрын
+Thomas Harrell Those chain stringers are too loud. It's like having your fish on a lure for sharks. Besides that, those chains rust. My ugly stringer has it's merits. It's cheap, it can stay attached to the boat while I put on new fish. Already strung fish can stay in the water.
@JAllredFishing9 жыл бұрын
+TrailChaser I use a mesh fish bag, after a close call with a large shark in three feet of water that wanted my fish on a stringer. Scared the crap out of me. The bag keeps the fish alive until I reach my launch point. A big negative is that the bag produces drag on the kayak.

Why do you use a bait caster? Great video by the way.
@TrailChaser8 жыл бұрын
+HookedOnTheBay Thanks, I actually just started using a spinning reel and I'm liking it more than my baitcasters. Here's the story, I grew up fishing.(Like before I could wipe my own ass young...) The way it worked in my family was you started with a shitty closed face zebco and wished for the day you got to use an open reel Penn or AbuGarcia. We kids weren't even allowed to look at those reels, so getting to actually use them was the goal in life for several years. The spinning reel was never really an option, and we couldn't just have our own baitcaster because dad didn't want to constantly deal with birdnests.. So naturally when I got older and could buy my own stuff it was always baitcasters without a second thought. Buying anything but an Abu or Penn was also not even a thought. Then I got on the internet and started reading stuff and I have become a loyal Shimano fan and recently the $30 sienna has caught literally hundreds of slot reds.(already over 50 reds so far for the year in kayakwars)

I haven't hooked that thing up in about two years. Even then I just used it for gps and water temp. If the water was less than about 3ft deep it wouldn't work, so it didn't work 95% of the time in my kayak.

Why not just throw plastics when they're tailing like that? Saves more time, not only catching bait, but changing baits on the fly when you're running up to a school. To each their own though, still fun regardless.
@TrailChaser9 жыл бұрын
+Joe Benavides. Jr. Free live bait is hands down the best option if that option is available. Plastics are an expensive last resort for me unless I'm fishing for big trout with topwater lures. You have good points on time saved, but I'm in no hurry and I've personally seen plastic lures spook fish at least as much as I've seen them catch fish. Natural/live bait never spooks them unless you land a direct hit with your cast. I bet my cast net has saved me hundreds of $$$ worth of bait. Plastics are expensive and it adds up quick when you fish as much as I do.
