What kind of welder do you suggest I don’t have one?
@RandomRandy.3 жыл бұрын
If you have the time to invest in learning I would suggest a good inverter powered multi process welder and run it as a stick welder or with flux core wire to start. The initial learning curve will be greater with stick welding but you will have a portable machine you can make substantial welds with as a hobbyist & you won’t be required to buy shielding gas tanks etc. That you would with a regular mig welding wire.

What exactly is that separating tool you used? I gotta get me one.

What’s up brother search in google for ports power that’s a cheap harbor freight version but it’s one of the heads for a portable hydraulic press system they come in handy sometimes
What’s up brother I did say jack off I imagine! The welder I used was a refurbished one from Northen Tool I believe their brand name is Klutch and it is the multi one that will stick, tig, or mig weld. Inverter powered. I’ll try to look at the model number when I go to the shop today if your interested. Thanks for watching the video click that subscribe button if you can I need 1000 before I can make a dime from any of my videos and it looks like it’s going to take about 10 years at the rate I’m going!! Thanks again!

Is a mig weld strong enough to hold on its own? I notice that you used both. What is your reason for that?
@RandomRandy.4 жыл бұрын
Yea it’s fine if you have a decent welder if you noticed I had to cut the cross brace loose that holds the two main pieces of steel together in order to widen the angle so they would make good contact with the inside of the hitch. I used the stick welder to weld the cross brace back in because it was a thicker steel than the hitch and I just feel like it burns in better than the mig on thicker material. Thanks for watching the video!

Random Randy Oh ok thanks. I notice that after you say that. Thanks for your help.

would there be any way to get the jack welds with the angle grinder from the top?? the cut the tongue welds on the underside with the angle grinder?? Of course while not absolutely mutilating the structural components of the trailer..
@RandomRandy.4 жыл бұрын
What’s up Mr. Conner where there’s a will there’s a way I guess if I had to do some something like that I would measure the angle coming from the main trailer and make me a line just at the inside edge with a tape measure and follow that line on the top if you cut all the way through you should be on the edge of the main steel from the trailer so once you get everything cut into Pieces and removed you should still end up with the same result just a lot more cut off disc will be sacrificed.

Nice video Randy thank you I don't want to ask is it easy to be a welder but what's a good way to start welding and what are welding kits for a beginner I want to do some work to my trailer my tongue broke on it
@RandomRandy.5 жыл бұрын
Hey Richard, I’m not a professional welder at all my dad showed me how to weld when I was a kid. My welder was purchased from northern tool it’s a refurbished one I got for around $300-$400. If your serious about welding I would suggest a local community college or trade school they usually offer welding classes day and night. If your just welding as a hobby I would suggest a stick welder it’s a lot harder to learn but you will be able to get decent strength welds out of a 110v machine I personally feel like the 110v wire feed welders just don’t produce enough heat for heavier hobby projects. I would encourage you to continue watching videos and learning from some people more experienced than me and I wish you the best of luck learning to weld & share your projects with me when you get started bro!

Good job other than welding the jack on. The jack is the part that is most likely to get damaged. Put it in from the top and bolt it on.

Hey brother thanks for the insights this was my first tongue to replace! I Haven’t done a lot of welding type videos but this is my most popular video online I may have to start making a few more.

How much time did the whole project take? 😎
@RandomRandy.6 жыл бұрын
Hey, Camping Chic I did this one morning after I got off work I think I didn’t finish it until after lunch so I’d say it took about 4 or 5 hours.

You didn’t replace the tongue. You replaced the coupler! Duh!

You know the funny thing is living in the south I’d never heard it called a coupler until I posted this video. Just tongue or hitch. It’s funny how our surroundings effect even the smallest details in our lives. Thanks for the comment!
