In the final months of his life Vincent van Gogh lived in Auvers-sur-Oise, a French village near Paris. During a relatively short time span of 70 days, he made 74 paintings and over 50 drawings. An exceptional level of productivity, even for Van Gogh.
Our current once-in-a-life-time exhibition ‘Van Gogh in Auvers. His Final Months’ covers this period of his life. On view are rare loans from private collections and renowned museums worldwide, including iconic masterpieces from Musée d'Orsay that contractually can only be lent to the Van Gogh Museum. Interested to know why? Watch the video to find out. Senior Research Teio Meedendorp and Associate Conservator Sara Tas tell you more about this extraordinary exhibition as they show you around in Auvers.
The exhibition was on view at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam from 12 May until 3 September 2023.
