I have to do this with my Toyota Tacoma trailer hitch. Why do you use that brand of spray paint. What brand do you recommend. I was thinking Rust - Oleum. Thanks

I would go with Rust-Oleum. I had a ton of spray paint at the house from a project that I didn't do.

Waste of time if you don’t take the rust off… I take whole hitch off if it was rust rotted get a new one from the junkyard some of them cars have newer hitch kits with no rust if they are rusted remove all the rust and paint the whole thing…

Did you use epoxy paint or regular acrylic enamel paint ? For better resistance scratch and weather I use epoxy.

Ive watched a ton of these videos over the last 2-3yrs. I do this every 12-18months. Couldnt believe how poor the finish was on OEM Honda receiver. As added layer of protection, I add spray grease to inside of receiver, esp going into the snowy months

My honda pilot ended up very rusty...but it had an after market tow package so that was the only thing that didnt get too bad.

What about the ball?

I just leave them as its only on the vehicle when im actually towing the trailer. Sometimes I grease my balls, but that is about it.

@@DIYNorth You mean ball, singular, right? ;-) Mine looked about the same as yours did. I actually sold my ball and shank as is to a guy who needed done because his was stolen, then I bought a new one to go with the new hitch and new-to-me vehicle. I was looking forward to cleaning and painting mine.

How did you get the rust off the underside without taking the tow package down?

I didn't. If you are intent on removing all of the rust you would have to remove the whole thing.
