Trailer jack

The basic function of a trailer jack is to lift the trailer to a height that allows the trailer to be hitched or unhitched to and from the towing vehicle. The trailer jack is also used for leveling the trailer during storage.
The trailer jack transmission consists of a bevel gear drive and a screw-nut one.

What is the hole for?

It is for positioning the jack. Work: vertical position Not working: horizontal.

The jack can not drive the crank because here the nut-screw drive is used. It has self-locking feature. It can only convert rotational motion into linear motion when the lead angle of the screw is small.
