Trailer Sailing the Whitsundays Queensland Part 2

Sailing our RL 28 trailer sailer “Neringa” through the central Whitsundays. The journey continues into Hill Inlet at the northern End of Whitehaven Beach, a paradise for trailer sailers and other shallow draft boats. Some good aerial footage of the inlet using the drone. After 2 relaxing days of exploring this beautiful location by dinghy and by foot we head north for Nara Inlet. Along the way we hook a 60cm Bonito Tuna. Nara is a superb anchorage with rock art and climbing ashore. When exploring by dinghy we discover more reminders of the power of cyclone Debbie with 2 boats stranded on the rocky shoreline by cyclonic winds and storm surge. On the sail back to Able Point we hit 30 knot winds in the passage with Neringa handling it beautifully.

Thanks Matty. You must be of a similar vintage as me to know who the Leyland Brothers are! Just finished a trip out to refuge cove and planning an extended trip through the Kimberleys in 18 months time. Great to be a Leyand Brother! 👍

My mistake! Its great to see the younger generation appreciating a classic Australian documentary maker.😊 Used to love watching them as a kid during the 1970's! Refuge Cove video will be a couple of weeks.

Love the bigger boat but more importantly my partner loves it too which means she is happier when sailing than she used to be. Love the standing headroom and the separate bathroom and vee berth. Halcyon was great but the comfort of Neringa especially as age reduces my flexibility is really welcome.

Happy to let you know next time I'm sailing out of Melbourne, could sail in company to a destination around the bay, may be a while given the weather lately and maintenance work to do around home before spring.

Hi Mark, I am going for my first sail since the whitsundays tomorrow(frid) through sunday. I am launching from StHelens Boat ramp in Geelong in the morning (I have promised someone down there a look at the boat and I want to try the ramp there as an alternative to williamstown) I am currently planning portarlington friday, SE corner mud islands sat and back to geelong sunday. Not sure if there is the chance of some joint sailing there or it may have to wait till the next outing. Either way my mobile number is 0407 861781

Just curious, do you tow the boat with the dinghy hanging in the davits? Thanks, Peter

No. would be way too much wind resistance. When I set up at the boat ramp and I know I will be using the dinghy, I inflate the dinghy and put it on the davits before launching.

and when retrieving I put the boat on the trailer and then take the dinghy off the davits, its easier than doing it on the water.

Just revisited your trip to the Whitsundays. My wife and I were there in late July, and visited Whitehaven beach....yes one of the many day trippers. Loved it. .......and loved the videos too .Tony .
