Cheers, you are right. The whole buying process has been a challenge. Add to that trying to get material sent to Guatemala where my boat is has been hair pulling. Parts list from design and bills of material for purchasing. Ugh! Thanks you for documenting all this, just that is very time consuming.

Just finished installing new electronics, controls and rewiring of my entire boat. The boat is a 1975 Marine Trader 34’ Sedan Bridge. Removed about six 5 gallon buckets of wire and mountains of old panels and components. 100% new tinned marine wire throughout. This includes 2/0 house and engine cables. All wiring is routed throughout the boat in either gray PVC conduit or server rack style raceways. As you eluded to, I installed Blue Sea Systems for all panels, bus bars, and fuse holders and Victron power distribution equipment (Multiplus II 120v 3000, Orion 50A B to B charger, Lynx distributer, Smart Shunt, Cerbo GX, and 7” display.

As always good job Joe. Love the air horn and the captain's chair. Have you looked into a thistle or an articulated rudder? I've also been wondering if we need a 120v system except to charge batteries and am thinking of going that way the next time I have a boat to restore. I've been trying to think of an appliance these days that doesn't run off 12V except maybe a toaster. . oh wait. .
@motorcityboatwerks2 ай бұрын
Thanks Joe 😁 Boat Restoration Rule #17 says If It’s Not Broke Don’t Fix it. 🤓I think the rudder is fine. I think Experience tells us, For any long term live aboard situation you need a minimal 120v system especially for charging when tied to the dock.

Beta marine engines are sweet i worked on a few betas at a diesel shop on tractor trailers and on a few commerical boats.

Great episode, thanks the break down and documenting the various systems. I'm surprised you're doing a stern thruster instead of a bow thruster on a single screw though. Could you tell more about this?
@motorcityboatwerks2 ай бұрын
Thank you Calvin😁 I will go into the stern thruster in detail in a separate episode. But basically it’s easier, cheaper, and provides virtually the same results 🤓

As to engine sizing, there is a point where more engine HP results in less gain in hull speed. A little extra juice is great, but don't trade off too much in fuel ecomony.

Hey brother- while I'm all about reusing older stuff- I don't like using obsolete stuff, like your auto pilot. Once it breaks- and everything does- you're gonna have a really hard time finding another working unit. Have you considered switching to hydraulic steering? You can find used helm units that are still in production for a good deal.
@motorcityboatwerks2 ай бұрын
These are all good points 👍and I’ll discuss these in detail in the autopilot episode. The autopilot is not obsolete, just unsupported anymore. Which is why I have a complete replacement. Hydraulic steering is an expensive upgrade that presents size and location problems in this helm. And then an expensive AND obtrusive autopilot to match.

I'm working on a 1980's Lockley-Newport 19 trailer sailer and it has carpet on the cabin liner. Any recommendations for getting it off or what about giving it a good clean and put new headliner over the top ?
@motorcityboatwerksАй бұрын
Thanks for the comment. 😁You have to physically pull it up by hand with a scraper , then sand the surface and clean with acetone. Good luck

Entertaining factoid... The trawler weighs in at about 6000 to 7000 lbs. A Tesla Cybertruck weighs in at ...6500 to 7100 lbs. and it doesn't float !!!
