I was just gonna plug the pex tubing into the hole but was worried about it slipping out, great solution!!! I didn't know you had to drill it out either, thanks for the vid!!!

What I did was connect a water hose to the overflow under the evaporative cooler and then I removed the tube in the cooler that is on the upper end of the overflow. I have a cap on other end of the water hose and I just uncap it every few days to clean out the water in the cooler. Here in New Mexico we have quite a bit of minerals in our water. I have but don't like using a purge pump, I feel that every 8 hours on its timer is way to often to change out the water.

Actually there is a difference on tubing types. You want to be sure to use a tubing that is manufactured with a UV inhibitor. If you use tubing that doesn't have a UV inhibitor, the tube Will break at the worst possible moment and have a serious problem !

How do I turn off the bleed off? I have a purge pump and don't want the bleed off. Thank you! My water bill is over the top!

Watched this vid yesterday. Thanks. My pump has no side fitting like yours so I had to re-think my setup. Since my cooler is a roof top model, it has about a 15' drop to ground level. why not do Gravity Feed? I bought 50' of the 1/4" irrigation tubing and a small pack of the adj drip tip you used and ran the line to my big tree that could use a slow constant drip. A quick suck on the line sent a nice stream to my tree which I throttled down to a very slow drip. The other end was just placed under a small rock in the cooler base and fed thru the overflow tube. Bingo! Done. 2 parts. 7 bucks. Thanks!

Nice! If you ever loose vacuum, you'll have to start the flow again. Great solution!

There is no need to connect the hose to pump bleed line! You can simply connect a hose to the bottom of swamp cooler, while swamp cooler have enough elevation to siphon water throw hose.

it took him till the end to tell WHY you need a bleed off but he finally did! Thanks. Now I can modify my Bonaire to quit bleeding off so much water. The opposite of what happened here.

Do you have the Bonaire Durango window unit? I just bought one and it bleeds a ton of water. The element isn’t even getting wet after running it overnight ...

@@jonathanbetenbender307 I looped the drain hose back into the reservoir. It was just a huge waste of water. More scale buildup this way because it’s recycling the same water but that’s ok with me.

The man at the hardware store said I could attach the SE directly on the water line? Another video on here says so too. Does anyone know for sure?

@@userG5447 My solution to that was to run a line over the roof to a 55gal barrel on the side of my house with a pump in it. I have lines run to various plants around the yard. This way none of the water get wasted, good for the plants because the chlorine is gone after the water sits for a few days, because it is a VOC.

@@peterbrockhoff857 That's what I was planning on. Picked up an extra barrel from another project; cuz it was a good deal, it's been sitting in the basement.

@@David-vm1oq Evaporation!. Hard water carries lots of minerals including salts. As the water is evaporated through the pads it leaves those minerals in the pad, and of course, the water that doesn't get evaporated flowed back into the pan. As time goes these minerals accumulate. Next thing you know your pads get clogged with mineral deposits (lots of white residue, or salts.) Bleeding or purging is just a way of controlling but not eliminating these deposits. Only a water softener will do that but even that will become clogged with deposits in the filter. Here is an example of scale and salt mineral deposits. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eV6Un5yKqLCMd7s

@@David-vm1oq Tap water has mineral salts, especially in the western states, and the salts concentrate in the tray as the water evaporates. You have to dump the tray occasionally or the mineral salts will end up on the pads limiting their usefulness.
