I finally got around to putting together the Trailmaster MB200-2 full suspension mini bike. In this vid: showing un-crating, prepping, first short test ride, and initial impressions.
* I tried the CT200U-EX front axle washers and they were too wide, I went to hardware store and I think it was 5/8" 18ga washers that fit. I got a few different widths. I took the axle with me to make sure they fit. I'd recommend doing that, probably not good to have the forks cinched down that much.

I bought mine at a local dealer so I didn't have to hassle with assembly and making sure everything was done correctly. Will be firing it up and draining the oil and replacing with a higher quality oil. Taking it out to AZ soon for fun in the desert. The only mod I plan on making is swapping out the 46t sprocket for a 60t and a longer, high quality chain. I'll back out the screw to give a little more throttle response, also. Want to keep it mostly stock, but love watching these vids. Thanks, man!
@bwxmoto
@bwxmoto Жыл бұрын
Thanks. That’s cool. I’d still go over all the nuts and bolts! Yeah a 60t will wake it up quite a bit. It’s a fun bike and will be good set up like you plan. Might want a chain tensioner though. Might be ok, but if you have issues with chain that’s pretty common.

@@thehappyhermit01 check this out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqqxhYR6mbBomc0 I have to check and see if the link the one from Ali Express s still in that vid. That chain tensioner is great. After testing/ trial and error, a steel roller in it works way better and doesn’t wear down and makes a lot less noise than the rubber rollers if you go that route. But that one in the box you can buy (in vid) would be easier to install than the custom one.. but won’t be as robust.

Great video. Thanks! I have an older mb200 without rear shocks. I built an under seat spring system to smooth up the ride. Had the same problem you had with chain. It tightens and loosens upon multiple wheel revolutions. I keep the chain tension at about where you adjusted yours and haven't had any long-term issues. Also changed the sprocket to a 60t and that low end torque really climbs the tough hills much easier. Thanks again for the video. Really enjoyed it.

Nice! Thanks. And yeah the a chain tensioner really helps with the suspension travel if you get longer shocks. I think you can get away without one with stock shocks. With my 12" shocks I really need one, but it works great so far.

Hey I really dont have a lot in terms of tools or mechanical knowledge, but do you think that I would have a problem unboxing it? Also how durable is this bike and does it require a bunch of maintenance?
@bwxmoto
@bwxmoto Жыл бұрын
Yeah these mini bikes all require some maintenance but it’s simple stuff you can do with simple tools that you can get as you need them for not much money. Cheap Harbor Freight tools are fine for working on a mini bike. Then you’ll have a small tool collection and that’s not a bad thing. Metric socket set, adjustable wrench, pliers, screwdrivers, etc. But you’ll definitely need them. The MB200-2 does have chain derailment problems out of the box though. Can be solved with a $25 tensioner that’s easy to install but if not the chain might pop off a lot in rough terrain even if you have everything lubed and adjusted perfectly. I think that’s the biggest problem with this bike in stock form and I didn’t buy one until I knew I could fix it. I’d probably start off with a simpler hard tail like a BT200X or CT200U-EX or something like that. Or expect chain issues until you fix it on the MB200-2/ Hurricane. But MB200-2 has a torque converter which requires less maintenance than a regular centrifugal clutch like the Colemans have which need to be lubed properly every few hours of riding or else it will self destruct. But it’s all very easy jobs that anyone can do. With internet and youtube vids you can easily get directions for everything you need to know. You just have to jump in and do it. It’s mostly keeping bad / old gas out of the carb, changing the engine oil, keeping chain lubed and tensioned properly, stuff like that. If you maintain them, they’re surprisingly durable and reliable. But if you don’t, you’ll get broken chains, burned out clutches, gummed up carb, etc. But it’s all very cheap and easy to fix even if that happens. Unboxing / setup is important, just do what I did in vid. You don’t need power tools for any of it. When I was a kid there was no internet. It’s so much easier now to just look something up online if you have questions. That can give you a lot of confidence before starting a job on the bike and helps you from making mistakes. I can tell by your post you have a brain in your head and can read. That can get you pretty far, so I think you’ll be fine. 👍😆

Nice bike. Not sure it would help on this bike, but I used to adjust the chain on my dirt bike with the shocks off. This way I can adjust with the chain at its tightest at the mid point of the swing arm travel. On that bike the chain was at its loosest swing arm "bottomed" and swing arm fully extended.
@bwxmoto
@bwxmoto 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah definitely. This bike is really bad with that. It gets a ton tighter when wheel is in the upward part of it's suspension travel and then really loose when at the lowest part of travel or just static with no weight on bike. I just spent all morning putting together some parts for a slick chain tensioner that a guy on MB200-2 FB group came up with. I'll definitely be making a video about it. It's going to be really cool.

@@ifyouwerefood Man that sucks. I’d check for spark, and maybe check for air leaks around carb gasket. Also make sure there’s gas in the float bowl. It’s probably one thing not working. These are nice mini bikes, my problem is, they look too much like a motorcycle and that goes against my reasoning for mini bikes, the RT/RB 200 is pushing it for me. I'd like the classic Ct200U to really get the 60's/70's vibe, but the Bt200x will have to do for now. Prices for the monster motos when they were going out of biz were insane, we missed the boat, covid made everything cost way more, RV's especially!

@bwxmoto
@bwxmoto 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the Trailmaster MB200-2 is a lot different from old Baja MB200 or the one they are still selling, the Massimo at Tractor Supply or whatever. Biggest difference is rear suspension but they are different bikes made by different brands. They do have a similar fork and handlebar and seat and same name so people confuse them but they’re different. Some parts are almost always exchangeable on modern Chinese mini bikes though. So you can’t say they are totally different.usually wheels/ tires/ brakes/ engine/ handlebars, and stuff like that are somewhat universal on these mini bikes between brands but not always.

@bwxmoto
@bwxmoto 3 жыл бұрын
Oh the lever? That’s just the norm for mini bikes. I think it’s easier than putting it on the right for beginners. Foot pedals are probably too expensive and complicated for cheap mini bikes. I’m going to install a front brake so that lever will be in the correct location. I think scooters have left handlebar levers for rear brakes.

Great content thank you so much new sub here! One question do you need a license for this ?
@bwxmoto
@bwxmoto 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Actually depends on the state I think. It's listed as an off-road vehicle so lots of states won't let you ride it on-road no matter what. Some let you license it for off road use only, and some will allow you to modify it and make it become road legal but then you need a motorcycle license to ride it on road. Most states it's probably almost impossible to make it road legal. Just have to look up the laws in your state at your DMV website.
