The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd is a role-playing video game developed by Nihon Falcom, serving as the final entry of a trilogy in the Trails in the Sky series of games. The game is also a part of Falcom's overarching The Legend of Heroes series, taking place in the same fictional universe as other Trails-related titles. The game was first released in Japan on Microsoft Windows in 2007, and later for the PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita. The game saw an English release in 2017, localized by Xseed Games and released for Windows.
Taking place six months following the ending of Trails in the Sky SC, Kevin Graham finds himself on board a luxury airship located somewhere above Erebonia, doing a recovery mission for the Septian Church, of which he is a high-ranking member. After a successful completion, he returns to his ship and immediately receives another request, now to investigate an artifact recovered from the bottom of Valeria Lake in the Liberl Kingdom. There, he meets Ries Argent-an old friend-and they both get caught up in an incident that leads them into Phantasma, the Land of Shadows, a place that seems to follow its own otherworldly rules. Thus, they begin their investigation, which leads them to unearth their own past.

My favorite will always be Star Door 15. Just because it really broke me, and broke my mental image of the world of Zemuria. RPGs can get into some dark topics but... games just don't ever go to where Star Door 15 went.

It's also noteworthy how hard SC danced around the subject, pretty much hinting at it but not stating it outright so that a kid could play the game and just know something bad happened. 3rd then outright states it and goes above and beyond.

Actually I got the hang of it immediately, and I won every single time or almost at my first try. Not trying to brag - Nothing to brag about -, just saying that there is a logic way to win if you know the interactions between baits, fishes that can be used as a bait for bigger fishes, and bigger fishes.

It's always nice to see and have different perspectives about things, as long as we can be cool and accepting. xD Bleublanc added humor and beauty in the darkness of Ouroboros. I kinda like him for his witty remarks--the same reason why I adore Olivier. But I also have the same question as killscottkill--where and what is his darkness that made him suitable to join Ouroboros? It could be something that was overlooked by Falcom, just because they wanted to show people how diverse a so-called evil organization can be. It's also possible that Loewe was 'exaggerating things'... or not saying that for all the members. It really up to us on how we want to perceive what 'darkness' meant, after all. Having darkness in your heart doesn't necessarily mean you have to experience a gruesome past or being a literal psychopath. Maybe Bleublanc's desire to be at the noblewoman's side, his greed... was part of his 'darkness'. But knowing Falcom, it's almost impossible for the case to be that simple. Meaning we may get to see more of Bleublanc in the future. Maybe. If we get to see the explanation behind his darkness and how he get his power someday, I'm all ears.

For all we know he could have his own "Class VII" like group that he has hidden from the world. A bit far fetched but it would be interesting

@@Blackstar34751 Next Trails game: you're an orphan in a not dissimilar situation to a young Scherazard, taken in by Bleublanc who sympathises with your situation since he too had to live the same way, whilst he trains you and your fellow former waifs in the fine art of thievery. The final boss of the first game would be Bleublanc himself since you're a street urchin with a heart of gold, so you just cannot abide by him being involved in Ouroborous once you find out he's part of an evil secret society, and you feel not only pity for your adopted father but also regret it had to turn out this way! I'm just sayin', Falcom, I'm available!

There's also one detail worth mensionning about the Sun, Moon and Star door's. In Cold Steel 2, there are special types of quartz can obtain that allows you to use Lost Art, which are very strong Attack and Support arts. The lost arts elements are a mix of 3 normal elements, BUT in the description of the Lost Art Quartz, it is said that the three elements mixed together form new ones. They are three total Lost Elements, which are called Sun, Moon and Star. So...are these elements related to the doors in Sky 3rd? Are they just another form of Lost Arts? If so, then the doors are not necessarily unique to Phantasma, are there is a high probability we will see those again in the future. And if normal elements can combine and form new Elements, could the same happen with the Sept-Therrions? I haven't played the Crossbell game yet, but I did hear about the three bells of Crossbell having Sun, Moon Star in they're names. Maybe they are also related somehow.

The way I interpreted the Happiness Stone door, due to the "Illusion World" and the fog that appears at the start of the scene, is that I had something to do with Luciola. We don't know what happened to her between the events of SC and her appearance as the fortune teller in Ao, so I think it would have a lot to say a lot about her character.

I really hope the next Kiseki game is something like the 3rd in how it ties loose ends and make foreshadowing. Sky the 3rd really is one of my favorite games in the series. My favorite door is Star Door 8. Star Door 15 is the reason why I appreciated Zero' s atmosphere so much with its antagonists, whom I really hope will be seen again, or the consequences of their acts, in the Calvard arc.

The main thing I’ll say besides that this was a great video btw is that the sun door is not the only way figure out the back story of Phantom Thief B. In that same door he says, “The truth is within your grasp my number reveals all.” In Ouroboros he is Enforcer Number X or 10 thus theory one is correct as the profile is named X or you could do 1 + O = 1 which you could easily assume theory one is correct. It’s like he is playing with the local media as they may not know about the enforcers of Ouroboros and their numbers. Who knows maybe we will find out more down the road no spoilers pleases I’m waiting for the English release of CSIV.

Sky the 3rd is actually the first game I get in touch to the trials' series, I don't even know the characters back then, I just think the newest game in a series must be the best one lol, but still the story and the music are just sooooo good, so after I finished the game I instantly go back to the first two, and because I already know the extra information about the characters, it become a really unique experience, and after that, I replayed 3rd again, which made me love the game even more, oh, and my favorite door are moon1 5 and sun3, I love heartwarming stories and battle, star14 is awesome too, it gives me the conception of how big the story could be. Even after finish the whole trial series, this game is still my favorite(replayed 5 times, personal rank 3rd>2nd=Ao>1st=zero>CS1&4>CS2&3), it explains a lot about the story, enrich the characters in different aspect, and have the best music in the series imo(love the mysterious vibes), really hope it can get a remastered version on the console, definitely wanna try again! PS Thanks for the subtitles it is super helpful!

I completed all sun, moon and star doors. Salt pale, Star door 14, conversation between Olivier and Osborne and Renne backstory were amazing. I cannot wait what is going to happen in Crossbell and after Crossbell going through Erebonia arc.

the salt pale one was really bizarre and terrifying... we still didn't know what caused it and why. It's hella mysterious and dangerous, but somehow the church decided that it was a gift from the goddess and used it to execute people! Really makes me question the church's way of work. What the hell were members of the congregation of sacraments thinking...?

Just finished the 3rd today, amazing journey and while some of the Doors were... not fun (minigames mostly), others were hilarious, and some were... heart-wrenching to put it softly. Can't wait to get started with Cold Steel.

If you can, try playing the Crossbell games, or at least the first one, since there’s a very well done fan translation of it you can find online. If you didn’t know, the Crossbell arc takes place in-between The Zemuria arc and Erebonia arc, and you might be confused on some story beats in the cold steel games if you haven’t played the Crossbell games beforehand.

Pausing the video to comment on Raven's door part. I actually kinda like them. In fact, I got really excited when we get to see their faces at SC. Not to mention that Agate is one of my top favorite characters in the series--I often do bothersome things just to see how Agate will interact with his former gang. Things just got even merrier when that cocky purple head guy thinks of Agate as some sort of a rival. I got excited about this door because I'm curious about their bracer journey, and really would love any extra Agate content. xD That being said, I quite like that door, but hated the combat part. :/ They're really weak and slow... going back and forth just to heal and then encounter another monster was super annoying. If only we don't need to fight the monsters... I will love that door much better.

@@SadisticNiles good for you, then! I just can't watch the red beep everytime they're low in health. It made me anxious lol. When I got unlucky, they sometimes got KO'd really easily, so I have to heal often :/ maybe I'm just not that good at combat like that after all... I'm too reliant on arts

Props for giving Star Door 2 a high rank, it's easy to dismiss as the writers just tying up the loose end that was the method of Weissman's execution if you're not paying attention. Sure, it's also a strong bit of worldbuilding about the political state of the continent that gets brought up later, but methinks that's all meant to distract from one of the earliest bits of foreshadowing for the big reveal of the entire series. It's an indication that there's something terribly wrong with the world of Trails, that there are forces and things beyond known reality that humans are unable to understand or oppose. The Salt Pale isn't just a natural disaster like a volcanic eruption, earthquake or a flood, something you'd expect of Trails' fairly down-to-earth writing that would achieve the same geopolitical outcome. It's a distinctly unnatural thing of unknown origins that could have wiped out all life on Zemuria if not for a fortune of geography. Between that and later reveals in the series, it's easy to start crafting theories. We're already aware that alternate dimensions exist, and then we have the recurring theme of the celestial bodies. As another commenter in this video pointed out, the sun, star and moon are considered the 'lost' elements in CS2, which leads me to suspect that the entire sky of Zemuria is some manner of illusion or facsimile, the real one preserved in folklore and symbolism. The Grandmaster obviously factors into all of this, possibly even being Aidios herself come to lead the people to another 'Zemuria' as the current one nosedives into some Lovecraftian horror world. At worst, this has all repeated itself over and over, each time the Goddess granting the survivors her "gifts" to provide for them early on. To add to that theorem, the concept of Ouroboros, the snake eating its own tail, represents infinity. To continue the speculation further, perhaps it's all a test to see if humanity is finally transcending it's more selfish inclinations (who knows, might be something more than meets the eye to all those demons that keep popping up as well), seeing how all the known Sept-Terrions have ultimately failed due to flaws in human nature rather than inherent design mistakes. That might even explain why the Grandmaster lamented the loss of Weissman of all people if his vision for humanity resonated with hers on a personal level. Compared to that, a scene of the heads of a cryptic organization having a cryptic conference call stolen straight from Evangelion and exchanging cryptic gossip just doesn't really seem all that impressive if you ask me. Yes, it's important stuff, but you could hardly hang a bigger lampshade if you tried. If anything, I'd argue it might actually be doing the eventual reveal a disservice to have such an overt scene and throwing around chuuni terms like 'Phantasmal Blaze plan' to make sure the slow kids in the audience get that something big is brewing. For me it's one of the 'meh' doors we could've done without, or that would have benefitted from a heavy redraft.

Blueblanc is problably to most mysterious enforcer. He for the most is an enigma. He doesnt seem to have the darkness that other enforcers yet he is an enforcer. The enforcers have an over have tragic yet blueblanc backstory seem rather binine. He other interesting fact outside of meeting joshua and leon in FC (well technicaly meet him in FC but not in person) blueblunc was first enforcer you encounter using the enforcer title. With the religous undertones first shall be last. Ontop of blueblanc is thief a masterful one at that. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

least favourite was Star door 6: the training, agate style cause having to do combat with those 3 ravens was brutal, and Sun door 2: Estelle fucking fishing minigame aka THE DUDE FISHING OUT A 300 POINTS FISH ALMOST EVERY TURN Favorite is Star door 15 cause it fucking broke me and Moon door 5 with the happiness stone cause it is so wholesome and filled with many mysteries.

Didn't think about Ragnard. Since it mentioned the bells in the west in the same phrase though I always associated the pact with Ouroboros' alliance with Osborne being dissolved and this was the Grandmaster's green light later to take him out as part of Phantasmal Phase plan. Anyway, great commentary as always, hope those bugs in Zero are coming along and we can hear more insightful commentary from you again soon ;)

I played the games out of order: CS 1, 2 and 3, Sky 1, 2 and about the first half of 3, then CS 4, and finally I pushed to finish Sky the 3rd. Blasphemy, I know. But when I saw Osborne in Sky the 3rd, and then Star Door 14, I LOST MY SHIT. God I love this series.

Pausing (again) to comment about Moon Door 5. xD I just can't help it! I don't have any friends to discuss the game with, ya know. The baby dragon was really cute!! Anelace would freak out If she gets to see him. xD There are many interesting theories about this door, so I wanted to dump it all in here. 1. It was some kind of illusion made by something similar to Luciola's ability I won't deny the fact that it was some sort of illusion, given the fact that the name 'Illusion World' came up. But about who did that to Mary and why... it's just way too vague. Why would Luciola, or someone with similar power to her, do that to a random kid from an orphanage? 2. It was Polly?! I think I saw this one on reddit. You see, Polly was acting rather strange here... she always seems like she's rather slow and insensitive, but then she suddenly notices Vogt's back pain (you'll know what I meant if you go to Varenne Lighthouse at that moment). Even Vogt was surprised at how sharp she is. Also... what did Polly see before she got lost and Mary had to search for her? Could be just some random things, but it's too much for a coincidence. No one ever asked her where she actually went or what that caught her attention, not even Mary... I think she might be the key behind all this mystery. A person also suggests that she might be the dragon, but was cursed or something. xD 3. Did Mary travel to the past? The name 'Baby Ragnard' tricked us into this theory. But let's all remember that the baby dragon was mentioning about Glorious and Aureole! Surely that's nothing that happened twice in different centuries. 4. The dragon was Matron Theresa This is the easiest theory to break. How could Matron Theresa breathe fire and bring Mary to fly at the sky?! So here's all the information we've gathered so far: 1. The dragon was called 'baby Ragnard' and said to resemble him. 2. The world which Mary was in was an 'Illusion World'. 3. Polly was acting strange. 4. The dragon knew about Glorious and Aureole. Here's my theory: The dragon was indeed Ragnard's baby. Maybe the whole Ouroboros thing was a really hot gossip for dragons. He could have heard about that from Ragnard himself. Then again, I don't remember much about how dragon works or how much of them left in Zemuria (I even think Ragnard was the only one? But idk. I forgot.), but it's the most plausible given how similar the two are. He shares something similar to Ragnard's golden septia, and that is the happiness stone. So yeah, it's just another kind of very rare septium. Nothing exceptionally magical. Baby Ragnard has some sort of illusion magic and could create a whole copy of the real world, but because he's still a kid, it's uncontrollable. He accidentally brought people to the illusion world from time to time. And this time it was Mary that get caught up in his mess. Polly's behavior may have something to do with this. That illusions, however, also messes up with people's memory. That's why Mary said the scent from Baby Ragnard reminds her of something (we didn't know about) and why she didn't ask Polly a thing about where did she go or what did she see. Because it might be correlated with how Baby Ragnard's illusion power works, and that bit has to remain a secret.
