Trails through Daybreak 3 is Now Kai no Kiseki: Farewell, O Zemuria!?

Kai no Kiseki: Farewell O, Zemuria has been announced as the next title in the Trails / Kiseki series! While being named Kai no Kiseki, this title is the 3rd entry in the Calvard arc following Trails through Daybreak and Trails through Daybreak 2. This title is also being pushed as Falcom's flagship 20th anniversary title!

@@steinsschrodinger8688 Shizuna basically confirms in Kuro 1 that Rean will be returning. The general consensus from the JP community is that he will be a party member or dual protagonist for Kai, and main protagonist for the arc after that in order to try and salvage the series.

honestly I'm super biased here, but if they're worried about sales due to complaints about writing quality and systems bloat (which i very much share, like I haven't played any of the JP only ones but Cold Steel IV is often dreadful) then the solution isn't to speed up, its to slow down. The business and creative strategy that birthed the Trails (and honestly, Gagharv) series-es in the first place came from the awareness that Falcom was never going to be able to make huge budget, ultra-advanced games, and thus that they had to put effort into storytelling, size, and depth in order to drive fans to their technically unambitious RPGs. Trails in the Sky is a masterpiece for that reason: they weren't afraid of it looking like a PS1 game or having a small audience (in fact, I love it for both) and instead used those things to their advantage to tell a heartfelt and awesome story with innovative combat and great artwork. Instead of constantly trying to improve their graphics or mess with combat each game to make it more "modern," then, they should embrace the philosophy of paying fewer people more money to make less technically impressive games, and thus require lower sales to stay afloat. They can stick with the CS engine, or even go back to the graphical style of Sky (not that I would....absolutely love that or anything...) as long as they are paying their writers and telling their stories. if we as trails fans wanted mega budget RPGs with one-and-done stories, we would play final fantasy. we love trails because its skrunkly, slow-paced, drowning in text, and takes it time to weave its giant tapestry.

The mech in the trailer, I'm actually thinking that's an upgraded 'Valimar' since in Trails into Reverie he did manifest through Rean's soldat unit and the 'Yes Rean' that showed on the screen gives an idea part of him is still there.

Nah, they won't update it. CS4 said the story was over after the credits but it continued in Reverie and they didn't bother updating that, lol.

​@RozalinGaming Sorry lad, but the Japanese releases are blunt, but Nisa, given the green light, tweaks the credits. I'm pretty sure Crimson sin will be something similar as what Cold Steel 4 received.

I haven't played Kuro 2, but will this series evolve into a space opera like Xenosaga at the end? Like Brandon Sanderson plans to do in his Cosmere universe? I can't really see that, but a man can dream...

Can't say for sure but unless they rush it there may not be time given they are likely going to end the series early after Kuro 1 and 2's performance.

@RozalinGaming I hope it doesn't come to them rushing or ending early, especially now that it started getting more popular in the West. I do think, however, they need to step up their game regarding the overall plot after cold steel 4 kinda, in my opinion, dumbed what they built over the years.

I'm not sure why Infinite Wealth seems unrelated to Yakuza to you but it is Yakuza 8 and a direct sequel to both Yakuza 7 and Yakuza Gaiden, if that helps alleviate your worries. As for a review, probably not. I don't get early access to games and unlike with Yakuza 7, Yakuza 8 is a world-wide release so I'll be picking it up the same day as everyone else. I will still try to put content out for it as best I can, but Yakuza 8 will be bumping up against P5R so it may be difficult since I do everything myself with regards to videos.

Really hoping for some well deserved Rufus PoV. Him being absent in Kuro 2 was really cheap, but I guess he would take away from Swin and Nadia's spotlight too much.

Given the fact that he's seen in a screenshot with Swin, it seems like he was working on a different task (Or trying to keep a low profile, based on the fact that he said that he was someone who shouldn't exist - a nod to how he "died" in Trails into Reverie)

The series being sped up breaks my heart. I REALLY like Kuro 1, and I think Kuro 2's fine if you enjoy the characters. Shame they didn't sell well. Guess people weren't ready to leave Erebonia behind, and it shows in the sells. If the series is really 90% done, that probably means we're getting 3 more games. Hope they're good ones, at least.

It wasn't leaving Erebonia that caused poor sales. The most common complaints among JP players are: (1) drastic drop in writing quality; (2) poor performance and bugs; (3) inclusion of useless systems; and (4) the lack of a challenge; Kuro 2 specifically is also considered to currently have the worst story in the series. I am mostly in agreement with their complaints, though my reasonings for the drop in writing quality differ. My biggest complaints though are with performance -- both games still have bugs with 15+ patches each; Kuro 2 has two game-breaking bugs -- and difficulty, as both games are insultingly easy.

@@Cylanthegreat Writing complaints have actually been happening since CS 1, Kuro 1 was just the last straw since it got so bad. As for the alignment system, yeah, basically everyone I've talked to agrees it is useless, and honestly it is; not only is there no punishment for choosing different options, all outcomes are the same regardless of what you choose. The only time the alignment system makes any difference is you get 1 extra line of important dialogue when choosing Ikaruga during chapter 5 in Kuro 1.

@@JimC1984not really. The quality of writing indeed dropped. It just the west didnt really like harem character like rean. The sales made it clear. Kuro didnt sell as much as CS

It really comes down to two things: (1) Kuro 1 and 2 having such a poor reception that the series is being sped up to finish it; and (2) Kuro 2 being a full game that was almost completely filler.

i played only kuro 1 and it was kinda disapointing compared to the previous games , so i understand why they rushing this one but as long as they bring back rean im fine with this 3rd game 💕
