Hammerhead forward for maximum grade crossing runner smashing capabillity. The parked train problem used to happen quite a bit in Milwaukee when I was a kid in the 70s. The 35th Street yards would be plugged solid and the Milwaukee Road would have to park trains on the mainline in Wauwatosa along State Street. This would jam up 12 crossings and people would have to drive miles out of their way to cross the tracks. The solution was the Milwaukee Road went bankrupt and a lot of their traffic dried up. Great video as always, enjoyed it much. Thanks JT!

JT, I watched this video yesterday, I couldn't really say much, seeing the trains passing that close to each other with one stopping so the other could pass, brought back some of my childhood memories. My dad passed last month, we had a lot of railroads in our town of Saginaw, Tx., We would get stuck by the trains doing this. My dad would give my sister and me different kinds of cars to count to keep us occupied while we sat there forever, waiting for them to clear away. ... THANK YOU FOR THE MEMORIES, WE HAD A LOT OF THEM.................. for being girls he sure taught us a lot about mechanics.

Chessie System B&O 6240 GP9 still running the rails of the South Branch Valley Railroad. As of late late 2023. Between Green Spring and Petersburg, WV. Omnitrax took over operations of the short line from the state rail authority. They are still hauling chicken feed to Moorefield for Pilgrims and the Potomac Eagle still has their excursion runs. They also have a GP9 that still has the B&O markings. You might catch some live action where the SBVRR connects to CSX at Green Spring. Have a nice day.

Always like your descriptions of cars & what their carrying. We use LPG to heat our farmhouse with. We also noticed those cars that we would call combo units that share axles making them 1 long car of 3 or 5 sections. We know that`s not the right name for them but we know someone out there will correct us. We see those long segment type of cars when we go alongside the UP rail line going to Oregon City to pickup grain for our thoroughbred horses of the living kind. We once had a horse become scared of the ground shaking under him from a slow moving fright train! He passed the train when he went to galloping! Turk was a very fast 3/4 Arabian/ 1/4 Welsh cross horse. Finally only a very steep hill we went up on a side street wore him out enough for us to slow him down. The train we never saw again as Turk had passed it by a long distance!
@JawTooth10 ай бұрын
Those are articulated flat cars used for intermodal freight. They make it difficult to get an accurate car count for the railfans. Turk is a good name for a horse. My horse would panic if he saw a train. I saw an Amish horse panic in Pennsylvania when a steam train passed him at a crossing. The horse did a wheelie. Lol. Thanks for watching my video and have a great day!

In fact, that does it - I'm moving to Arlington Heights for a trackside home to view all this rail action. Or maybe I'll just set up a mobile home adjacent to a local yard down here in Dixie. Arlington Heights may not be so swift from December 1 to May 1. On the other hand, it ain't so swift down here from June 15 to October 15. Thanks for another great one, Brian. Love your videos.

For all the complaints about the blocked Crossing after the gates went up there was nobody waiting on either side. Those trains leaving town sure pour it on especially that first train. Even the Hammerhead was giving it's all. That first car proved once again heads up when around trains as that plate steel.was overhanging the edge of the car by a foot or two. Certainly plenty of action at that location and there's more than one Crossing in case you have to leave

From dual train tracks going on for miles south bound from Arlinghights, OH, it does not make sense why the train had to stop, if there was one track up head, not the case. I guess ether busy train traffic up ahead or there was one track out of the two not in use, for some reason. This long wait for other trains to pass would less likely happen, if they keep the trains shorter.
@JawTooth10 ай бұрын
Very true about the shorter trains. This train could be positioned easily to not block crossings if it was broken into two trains. The problem is that Gest Street Yard is busy and gets clogged up. Trains have to wait to enter the yard
