I have never seen a class 37 push a railcar on the west of England mainline before! But it is exciting to be in the cab knowing you have all that power behind pushing.

Great Memories of Exeter in the early 90’s as a recruit at Lympstone 👍

It wasn't until I heard the horn that I realized that this was an ex Hastings unit, then I took a closer look and it was! Originally the SR General managers saloon rebuilt from former 6B buffet car no:60755 at Stewarts Lane in 1969 with a full drivers position at each end and given the departmental number of DB975025. Amazingly it still survives albeit with a few alternations. Thanks for sharing

I loved the distinctive sound of the vacuum brakes being applied! Or at least I think it was...

Fascinating video. I would be interested to know why some of the potentially more interesting stretches of track were left out, for instance several of the former station sites, in favour of some fairly dull bits of countryside, though.

I'm a Canadian living in S. Calif. USA. Was a 12 yr. old in a choir at the Wales Eistedfod, in 1966. Fell in LOVE with the GREEN Hills in England and cried for days, like I was HOME. Still the OLD brick structures, and STILL the Green, and Still the Peace and relative quiet and beauty I remember.....I abhore brown, dry land. Was surprised by the dwellings right along the rail tracks...must be severely noisy and creepy 24/7!! What is the fuel, now? Is it getting better, ecologically? I really enjoyed watching this video. Thank you so much.

I grew up living by a busy road - 60,000 cars/day apparently, then more recently right next to a railway with 4-5 trains an hour just 45ft from my bedroom. The road was a continuous drone 24hrs a day, interrupted by the occasional crash - I hated it! With the railway, it was like 10 seconds of noise then beautiful silence. Was no problem at all, including for my non-railway loving neighbours! Now I really miss living by the railway - all those people flying past then the silence. Was lovely!

The railway is far less intrusive than even a minor road, a road is always in use whereas a railway is only as the train passes. I would far prefer rail to road.

Weird that passages through Wellington and Cullompton are missing from the video journey

Hate to say it, but because most of the bits I wanted to see - Wellington, Cullompton, Hele & Bradninch - were skipped, I give this a D minus.

Allowing all those trees to grow up right next to the line is just asking for trouble in the leaf fall season! Railhead contamination will cause a SPAD as surely as night follows day! I pity the poor drivers who have to accelerate and brake on what, come November, will be a skating rink!
