I travel this line a few times every year. The journey is much more comfortable now they use Class 158 trains on this route. Beautiful scenery all the way! Thanks for this.

There you go, I wrote on the Plymouth to Exeter vid about the boys going west at Plymouth and arriving facing south at St Davids, well thanks to you I now see how they did it with the Okehampton rails joining near Okeford! Thank you!

I used to travel the southern part of this route in the mid-1950s in the Bude section of the Atlantic Coast Express, but I have never been on the northern part.

A great trip, thank you. This (parts 1 & 2) must be one of the least curving lines in UK.

They actually had a job to do for their government. They dealt with the numbers and the trends. Numbers tend not to romantic. I was thinking about this and I will bet that many of these lines would have survived if they weren’t served by steam. It’s a lot easier and cheaper to use diesel locos.

Did anyone notice that the points on leaving Eggesford seemed to be against the train, meaning that it must have forced its way through them? I wonder if this was intentional, and even common practice...

Yes probably Spring points.

Nice video. Pretty interesting countryside. Looks past it’s prime, maybe. Is it still dairy country? Looking forward to the next video.

Very nice video apart from filming into the sun making it quite squinty to view, but keep up the good work especially, if possible, in future with sound when allowed?

Not much we could do about that. As I said also in the description the Windscreen condition on the right hand side was poor which didn't help at all.

It's so much easier to destroy existing infrastructure than to maintain it. It's almost as if Messrs Beeching and Marsh wanted to ensure that the railways never rose to prominence again!
