Grew up watching Gulf Mobile & Ohio and Illinois Central in Normal, Illinois. There was a diamond a block from my house. In the mid to late 50's I saw steam engines on the Illinois Central. Davenport. Birthplace of Bix Beiderbecke--a Jazz musician from long ago. Every year I go there for the Festival named after him. The line that goes along the river is the former Milwaukee Road. Last time I was there it was run by the Iowa, Chicago and Eastern with a lot of CP power. There's a swing bridge further down the river. If you drove your car into the parking area where then riverfront park is you drove on Beiderbecke Drive.

JT, it’s a tale of two summers when it comes to the Mississippi river this year. Last year there were many stories of the water being dangerously low that boats had a hard time coming up river Now this year, the upper Midwest has been getting slammed by rain, which has just cascaded down and filled the river up extremely high. Great videos and catches on your trip to Iowa. Keep up the great work.

Welcome to Iowa. That bridge passes by the Rock Island Arsenal. The other end of the bridge has a swing span to let barge traffic through Lock and Dam #15. I’ve been on the bridge in my car with a stopped train overhead waiting on the span to close. I can’t count the number of times that I have used this bridge. I live just north of Davenport. Glad you were able to get some videos in the Quad Cities area last week.

I have family in Davenport! This CPKC line goes right by Modern Woodmen Park which is just to the west of this bridge right next to the US 67 bridge. That is an awesome place to railfan. I even caught a very similar train, a local, probably this one, going right past the stadium just before a baseball game. It was headed for an industrial area just to the west of the bridge and stadium. Good video and good visit to Davenport! Oh, another good railfan place is across the river in Moline right next to the John Deere Pavillion.

Mr. Tooth, sir, you are indeed a master train video man! What a beautiful video of that bridge across the Mississippi in Davenport, Iowa and across into Illinois...what a video, Brian! You catch the late day low sunlight perfectly and the shots are totally magical! The river is flowing so fast and it adds so much to the bridge, the train and everything is in the beginning of the sunset...just amazing! The river is flowing very fast and you can see it in the video...rushing past the bridge pylons. The riven is blue at first and as the sun sets and the clouds turn pinkish, so does the river. That other train coming underneath also makes this an amazing video. Thanks, Brian. You can sure tell the quality of your videos because of how much you are amazed at seeing what you share in your videos. Love the filming of the bridge and your commentary. Entertaining and informative, Brian. :)

Wow! Across the river in Rock Island Illinois, was the all mighty Farmall plant, where International Harvester built the famous Farmall tractor from 1923-1985. They shipped finished tractors out of the plant by rail a lot. I’m not sure what railroad got it, but I think the plant even had its own yard, and switcher locomotives, for moving empty flat cars, and loaded flat cars with tractors on it, to build a train. Then the railroad that got it as a customer would come and the whole train. They were a huge customer for that railroad. It very well could’ve been Illinois Interstate Railroad that got them. And then in the neighboring city on across from Rock Island was Moline Illinois, where the John Deere plant was, and they too shipped tractors out of there by rail, so those two plants where the No.1 and No.2 farm equipment manufacturers in the whole country. It would’ve been interesting to rail fan that area back in the day when all that farm equipment was going out. And even after the plants shut down for good, it would’ve been interesting to check out the old yard, and railroad branch lines that serviced the plants to see how they done it!

While the bridge doesn't have the long Viaduct lead like Kenova does you had succes with a train over and under. Sadly since the demise of the Rock Island the freight volume over the bridge isn't what it once was but their power and paint scheme helps make up for it. Also at one time the lower level hosted the local streetcar system. Of course thanks for taking the close-ups of the bridge signs as it has some unique history

If you walk over the bridge, the footpath is iron grating and you can see the river flowing beneath you. When I was young everybody called it the Government bridge. Is it still called that? My Mom worked at the Clock Tower and she said that a time or two the inspectors found rattlers in the roller dam when it was being inspected. Arsenal Island itself is worth a visit, especially the war museum.

@@JawTooth The bridge kinda scared me when I was a kid - all that dark iron and swirling brown water below.
