I own one of the very few AC6000CW parts catalogs that CSX took delivery of. Of the total 19 of them sent to CSX, 17 were sent to heavy overhaul facilities and 2 were sent directly to the Jacksonville General Office Building. My copy covers the cab, internal computer systems, and car body. The trucks and frame were part of a seperate catalog. The engine itself had its own catalog as well. Units 600-602 are the pre-production units, and they have their own seperate parts diagrams while the 603-636 have their parts diagrams shown on the pages following the 600-602. The catalog number for the pre production units is GEX-12293-01 while the updated version is the same as the first but with 02 instead of 01. Some of the parts diagrams are dated as far back as 1987 for example, the car body door latches. Ironic how the only 3 remaining 6000’s left on CSX are the original Pre-Production units, yet are now in dead storage. If CSX donates one of them to a museum, I’ll probably bring the parts catalog to reunite it with the unit, but I won’t donate the catalog to that museum.

At first, I didn't agree with Metra's plan with the MACH's but after seeing how cheap they now are getting each locomotive at $900k ea it a smart use of funds. Hopefully they start seeing use on lines other than the Milwaukee District such as the BNSF and Rock Island District. I'm pretty sure they can't run on the Union Pacific Lines due to being too heavy for most of the bridges on the UP-North Line which is why you only see F40's and F59's on those lines and no MP36's, the newest no-rebuild locomotive in their fleet. The livery is the best of the non-heritage liveries they use.

@@Sacto1654 I feel like Metra may be losing interest in purchasing second hand F40PHs considering how much more horsepower the SD70MACHs have compared to the F40PH and other Metra locomotives they currently have. Not to mention, the EMD 710ECO has tier 3 standards compared to tier 0 for the rest of the fleet, so while the MACHs aren't the MP54s, Chargers, or F125s when it comes to horsepower and emissions, they have likely already created a lot of savings in operating costs for Metra than buying additional second hand F40PHS would. So I think Metra could actually be more likely purchase more MACHs than second hand F40PHs, while the Caltrain F40PHS may more likely go to FIT in Mexico than Metra. (FIT is becoming a foamer's wet dream at this point, lol) Besides, the F40PH-4C existed for a year already and Metra hasn't said a word about them. Kinda makes someone think.

Nice piece, great videography, and good story line. It is important to note that most of the rebuilds are EMD products, that when dead lined still had the potential to provide owners and lessee's millions of more revenue miles. The EMD products were well engineered and well built solutions when built and lend themselves to rebuilding and repurposing. Short lines, and metro commuter rail are heavily populated with retired and rebuilt AMTRAK EMD products. They are just considerably better locomotives than the GE products. In the words of one of my BNSF corporate engineering staff friends the GE's are "cheap and expendable". I think we will continue to see Progress, and other motive power builders and rebuilders restore, rebuild and return much more EMD products to the rails than that of GE products. That is the current trend, and will probably continue to be the case in the future.
