The best hack is to catch a regional train to the Swiss border and switch to Swiss trains from there-haha! But, honestly, Italian train strikes are no joke... The reason Swiss trains are so punctual is that the Swiss Railway has adapted to the frequent delays coming from Italy. They actually build extra time slots into their schedule to account for the chaos that often happens on the Italian side.
