I think that shadows on the train being lower quality is fine and actually good. The painter John Singer Sargent was a master of doing this. The focal points are all high detail but stuff fades into the background to be more primiative shapes to give the illusion of detail. This is where it's great design for the train to have slightly lower shadow quality. Our minds will put the pieces together for us.

@@go_golden because CSGO worked fine, but they deleted it from everyone's machine. Never, ever, have I played a game and had it removed permanently and replaced with a half broken, 4 map "remaster" no one asked for. It'd be like if they deleted CS Source, or TF2, and put in a tech demo release of some flashy graphics. I want to play the game. I want cobble, I want cache, I don't care if it looks "dated" thats my choice to play or not, not theirs to make for everyone.
@go_goldenАй бұрын
@internetbodhi1009 "no one asked for" you're joking, surely? People asked Valve for a Source 2 upgrade and better tick rate for YEARS. Shame about the old maps though, that's fair. No idea what Valve is thinking on that front.
@slaypartyАй бұрын
@@internetbodhi1009 lol idk if you meant to but you literally just did exactly what they were talking about csgo took time too. CSS was a joke to many. 2 will be great with time. I've been playing premiere the past few weeks and i'n having a better time than i ever did in matchmaking playing GO. the problems will be ironed out, just like they had been with csgo
@internetbodhi1009Ай бұрын
@@go_golden my point being no one asked for the current situation. CSGO was already 120/144hz compatible. And hits actually registered. The people asking for a new CS are the people that play a COD for a year and then buy the next one. People complaining about tickrate are either ultrasweats, or people that *think* they are good. 99.99% of people would see a more appreciable difference in their supposed "performance" if they actually bought a good router, a legitimate, verified internet plan with guaranteed Gb connection speeds (instead of corporate bs 4Gig! Faster than NASA! overpriced garbage), Cat6/7 ethernet cord, and a better pc instead of some RGB clear case FaZe edgelord box with the equivalent of a chromebook inside for $2k. The human body cannot react much faster than 250ms. Then factor in the obsession with wireless keyboards and mice, add more delay. TLDR: My point being the people who asked think one millisecond is what's making them miss Global Elite. The same people that complain complex games can't run well on a Steam Deck. The vocal, uneducated minority, as always, won over the contentment of many casual/semi competitive gamers that were happy to just have a working game.

You know that the crappy lighting in CS:GO's kitchen isn't an engine fault but an art decision. @xyzabc123-o1lАй бұрын
the effect you described at 5:14 about the one way textures for seeing/not seeing through the train is achieved through comparing the normal vector (aka "direction the thing is facing") of the player's camera (aka their face/eyes) against the normal vector of the train's underskirt. if the dot product of those two normals is greater than or less than a certain value, then either the geometry of the skirt is rendered with an opague texture, or a completely transparent one, as if it wasn't even there :)
@stevethepocketАй бұрын
I think it's just taking advantage of Source's backface culling. They just faced the surface normals inward rather than outward like you'd normally do. Fake outlines in cel-shaded games work similarly.
@xyzabc123-o1lАй бұрын
@ if that's the case then it isn't anything Source specific, as dx12 and vulkan just allow you to simply specify backface culling as pipeline state, but still i think backface culling itself as it is implemented on the GPU is doing exactly what im describing
@vibaj16Ай бұрын
that's just automatically done by backface culling. All triangles only render if they're facing the camera.
@vibaj16Ай бұрын
@@xyzabc123-o1l yes, it's doing what you're describing, except it isn't a "transparent texture", it just doesn't render anything
@xyzabc123-o1lАй бұрын
@@vibaj16 i understand that in this specific case, the triangles are just simply discarded by the vertex shader, but in the case where some extra effect was needed (for example if it was some glass effect where the normal of the face determined some behavior), then transparency (and the triangles/pixels behind the train skirts) would need something more than just backface culling like i was originally saying. sorry for getting those ideas mixed :)
