Wow! That was risky! A lot of wait on that submerged roadbed. Nice shot though, great video!

There's no risks there, it's done pretty much almost every time there's a flood

We got a lot of rain in the midwest at that time of year. Was heading down south to Missouri thru Illinois and fields were flooded by the highway, felt like Florida on a causeway.

The nervousness of the driver and on the radio while white nuckling the controls had to be scary. 5 years ago we had a train stopped on the tracks because of this flood. Iowa and Nebraska had the Missouri River flood during spring time that year

I would have been a nervous wreck driving that train. What if drive motors shorted out half way across?

They have this at Hammond, Indiana at West of Wolf Lake area, the Tracks over there are flooded all the time but its Active.

This takes serious B A double L S by the engineer to negotiate a potentially catastrophic run across a flood plain. Strange how a known flood-prone piece of major rail traffic is not built higher with better drainage.

What is strange is they are all empty? What do these hold? Thankyou so much, excellent footage
@AP-zw6ql5 жыл бұрын
There's nothing strange about the cars being empty, those are Coal cars. They run (empty) out to Wyoming to pick up Coal, then haul it East to feed power plants.

Empty Coal cars. Power Plants usually only Stock a 60-90 Day Supply. Little Risky, the CNW/UP usually wouldn't run a Train once the water was over the Ties Ends, and never once over the Rails, account the Electric Motors between the Wheels hang down to within inches above the Top of the Rail. I'm sure they Inspected the Track for Wash Outs and any Broken Rails.
@mike322773 жыл бұрын
Traction motors I believe are four to six inches above top of rail. The water in this case was right at the top of the rail. This is most likely why they attempted it.

Its kinda scary and risky at the first time cuz the locomotive is a diesel electric, so if a water splash through the motor they can't move

Looks like they didn't even have a load of anything that NEEDED to get through so why did they chance it?
@AP-zw6ql5 жыл бұрын
Because they are going to pick up something that is needed, Coal.
@checkyoursix56235 жыл бұрын
Once they're emptied at a power plant, there isn't a lot of empty trackage available to park empty coal hoppers ... and you have to park 'em somewhere ...

Iowa. The bridge over the tracks is Highway 34 just west of I-29. The train is coming down from MidAmerican Energy just to the north.
