This is what got me into N gauge! Fantastic train set! I bought it from the place you did.

I got one of these on ebay for £60. It was my introduction to N gauge and a great set for a first timer. The controller is awful but everything else is superb in my opinion. The little orange loco can pull a lot and it runs really smooth. The buzzing comes from the controller. Once i switched to a Gaugemaster the buzzing stopped. Even the Japanese Thomas trains i bought run on this Arnold track which was a huge bonus.

I'm sold i want to build my own n gauge set up into a coffee table and your video of this little beaut has got me wanting one what a cool little train. Thanks fella

That coupling system just seems magical. Nothing fancy under the track, just some clever mechanics in place!

Yes I was really impressed with it, just kept playing trains instead of finishing the review 😁

For a starter in the hobby these are great sets. It takes some getting used to but these Simplex couplers are a nice touch when switching on my layout . Just plan really well ahead when building a layout with Arnold track , consider if you want power routing or not.

that automatic decouple makes this a pretty unique set i like it with some weathering and maybe a new coat that would look really realistic thx Simon...

Hi Simon, that was neat, the auto uncoupling is good 😊. Enjoy your weekend. Regards Gary

If continental N gauge is 1:160 what scale are you running in Simon? great video
@SimonsShed6 жыл бұрын
1:148 British n scale/gauge. Its the same track gauge, but slightly bigger model scale.

Wow impressive Simon and what a bargain! Are the points insulfrog ?
@SimonsShed6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, its a great little set. Yes the points are insulfrog, but the little loco seems fine over them, didn't cut out once.

I'm pretty sure the Eaos waggons have NEM couplerpockets. Very nice review though. 👍 BTW it's an starterset intended for the Italian market hence the name. It literally means goods train.
@SimonsShed6 жыл бұрын
I'll have to check the couplers again, I thought they were fixed. Thanks for the info, didn't realise it was Italian 👍

Great vid mate! Are you tempted to chip it and run it on one of the layouts?
@SimonsShed6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Neil 👍 Yes could do, or I might do a little layout / running in loop with the track from this set that I keep for when I need to run a DC loco in.

Hey..what nice little train set this is & yes, it's exceptional value for money. My question to you, Simon, is that, once upon a time Arnold had a great reputation for their well engineered & reliable locomotives, highly detailed coaches & wagons & were also considered by most N-Gaugers in the UK, to make the very finest quality N Gauge model railway track, in The World. Since Hornby now own the Arnold brand..please could you or someone else maybe, tell me if the track circuit & points contained in your set, is now made more cheaply by Hornby (in China, I presume?) or hopefully, the track in your starter set, is still that very same 'original' high-quality track, that helped build Arnold's 'best in the World', reputation. I have no doubt that their 'original' track would have once been stamped.. 'Made in West Germany' & that the same track probably continued to be made in that same German location, following the reunification. I did chance to notice that the track contained in this wonderful little 'Treno Merci' set, to have slightly darker metal rails, than the silvery-ones, that we normally see produced by the likes of Peco & Hornby. I presume, that this silvery-look is a result of the rails being made of nickel-silver, whereas the darker track shown both here in your 'Treno Merci' set & also, as what I remember to be, the 'original' Arnold track (Made in West Germany), are both darker than the track of other makers, presumably because either a different alloy was/is being used by Arnold, in it's manufacturing process or perhaps the Arnold track may have been painted or finished-off with some kind of high-conductivity coating which might give the Arnold track, it's darker appearance? At the end of the day, what I'm asking here, is does anyone out there, know if the track in the 'Treno Merci' box here, is exactly the same track, on which Arnold built their Worldwide reputation?

GOOD REVIEW, the uncoupling is intreating but not any good fot switching operations, but intresting, looks to be better than they were before, Arnold was not that good years ago, thanks for sharing. ..

Hey Simon you should take a look at some of the Kato Japanese train sets. The relatively cheap compared to American and British models but their detail is out of this world especially the steam locomotives

Hi I’m a complete beginner to N Gauge. If I get this train set could I run any N Gauge DCC ready but not fitted locomotive or DMU on the track, such as the class 101 that is described as DCC ready but not fitted? Also are Graham Farish Bachmann carriages able to connect up to the locomotive in this set? Thanks.
@SimonsShed6 жыл бұрын
Hi Simon, yes, any n gauge loco will run with this set, as long as it’s not DCC fitted, so the 101 DCC ready will be fine. The couplers are the same type as on the Graham Farish coaches so they will connect without having to change anything 👍🏼

Cool. Is that a drum set in the background?
@SimonsShed6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I bought it about 12 years ago, used it for 2 months and put it away, but Oliver recently started drum lessons so we've dusted it off again!

do any other hornby international made trains have automatic uncoupling?
@SimonsShed6 жыл бұрын
Not sure, but if it says "Simplex" on the box it will be the same as this one 👍
@mobius80026 жыл бұрын
why don't they fit these couplers to all model stock .there fantastic .the bane of my model railroading life is uncoupling in tight spaces ...fiddle yards and hidden sidings etc .these are the ideal item .
@deejayholliday6 жыл бұрын
Switching the points looks a little more fiddly than the Peco points.
@SimonsShed6 жыл бұрын
They are, the levers aren't very long so its a bit fiddly. I think they are designed to work with the side mounted point motors.
