I like setting a train off on the loop, the doing the same with another train on opposite track in opposite direction, setting the second train running then sitting as a passenger for a bit sometimes.

If you save the game right as the failure box pops up then reload the save game you will then unlock a freemode where you can watch the crash and aftermath in its entirety without being kicked out
