I think driving at 10 mph for any significant distance is actually quite interesting. It needs a lot of concentration to maintain that fine line between losing too much speed and exceeding the limit, made worse by changes in gradient that often accompany such severe speed restrictions.

A question about the DLC for this route. The core TS 2021 game and all the DLC I own was bought via Steam. That includes the two Midland Main Line packs (Leicester to Nottingham and Derby, and Derby to Sheffield) by Just Trains. I'd like to buy the Derwent Valley extension and the Erewash Valley extension but they are not available on Steam. You can only buy them direct from JT but it says on their site that they are only compatible with Midland Main Line packs bought direct and not with the Steam versions. Why would that be? Have I made a mistake buying from Steam?
@TheMarsupial19743 жыл бұрын
Great video of routes I work! The class 156 does not have vigilance only DSD which won't give you an in-cab alarm when you lift your foot so no way to realistically simulate DSD with no vigilance. Hope that answers your question.

Hi, would you be able to do the Three Bridges to East Grinstead stretch of railway at some point?
@carldove13833 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter. Thank you for another engaging video. One thing I have never quite understood is why on many of the UK’s rail routes there are frequent increases and reductions in line speed limits within a relatively short distance. For example, there is one route (I can’t remember which one) where the line speed increases from 75mph to 90mph, but then within 300 yards or so it’s down to 60mph. Clearly therefore no point in accelerating. It’s a mystery to me and no doubt many others. Keep up the excellent work.
@alancharles16813 жыл бұрын
Speed limits on Britain's railways are all to do with the condition of the track. If track condition is great and in a straight line then it can get 125mph limits, although to get that it has to be in great condition and straight as an arrow for a considerable distance. If there are curves and or the track is in a lesser condition state the speed limits will be adjusted lower as appropriate. And in this country because we have so many hills and valleys the lines tend to have lots of curves in them, hence a lot of speed limits are lower than 125. Also temporary speed limits can be imposed if the condition of a piece of track deteriorates because of water ingress etc. These temporary restrictions will be lifted once remedial action is taken to rectify them. Speed limits are all about safety. Safety is prime.
@carldove13833 жыл бұрын
@@alancharles1681 Hi. I understand why speed limits depend on track curvature, condition etc, but it’s beyond me why they can increase or decrease over relatively short distances. If a train is travelling at a line speed of, say, 50mph and then enters a stretch with a 90mph limit with a reduction after that to 60mph only a few hundred yards later, what is the point of signing the 90mph limit? The driver can’t possibly achieve 90mph.
@johnm20123 жыл бұрын
@@carldove1383 In many countries railways mainly run from A to B without many intermediate junctions with other routes. Britain is a small country with a high density of railways that form an interconnected network, with many junctions. This was even more the case before the system was pruned back heavily in the 1960s. The situation you describe would typically exist where a route that involves a secondary line joins a main line for a short distance and then branches off onto another secondary line. The high speed limit in the intermediate section would be attained by other services that use only the main line even though, as you pointed out, the secondary service has no chance of reaching the same high speed. It's much more expensive to maintain a line to, say, 100 mph standard than, say, 50 mph standard so if that high speed middle section was not needed for some other high speed purpose it simply wouldn't be maintained to the higher standard. The section between Ambergate and Matlock used to be part of the Midland Railway's picturesque main line between Derby and Manchester but has now been reduced considerably in importance. People wanting to travel between Derby and Manchester now have to go via Sheffield and the (also picturesque) Hope Valley line.
@ashton_gaming86702 жыл бұрын
How do you see the station and platform from far away for if you don’t have the bottom map on? Also could you maybe do a South Yorkshire route like Sheffield to Leeds with a northern class 158 or old 144 pacer as I sometimes take this route and would like to understand it better. Also how do you know when the next speed change is without map?
@PTGRail2 жыл бұрын
It's all about route knowledge and learning the route. Real train drivers don't have the HUD/map, and so I've created these videos to try and teach others how to also drive without the HUD/map. :)
@transportationuk7656 Жыл бұрын
The Route between Sheffield and Leeds via Barnsley does not exist in Train Simulator Classic. The Class 144 Pacer does not exist in the game. The Hope Valley Line is currently in the works by Just Trains.

TS2017 comes with a Cardiff to Bristol route, however you only get a class 175, 70, and HST. All routes that are not freeware cost money. There is an option to build your own route, but you’ll find that the majority of routes that you drive on will be pre-built by an official route builder.

I believe that 156s, at least when originally built, did not have a DVD fitted - simply a foot pedal that has to be depressed at all times. Therefore, I don't see any point in simulating it as there are no warnings to respond to. It would be like simulating the dead man's handle in the Class 483.
