I don't recall how, but I somehow discovered that the Palomino was for sale years back. This was around '99, and I pretended that I had financial backers who were interested in seeing the club open again just so I could have an excuse to check it out. The owner was a nice guy, and I probably should have felt guilty for stringing him along, but it was cool to walk through there. It had been closed for years at that point--other than the occasional film crew renting it out for shoots--but the wagon wheel chandeliers were still there, and there was still even fry oil sludge in the deep frier. The building is gone now, but I like closing my eyes while listening to this tune, and thinking about that rainy afternoon when I soaked in the aura.
