Train Stops On Siding To Let Auto Racks Train Pass. 5 Locomotive Train W/New CN Boxcar, 1965 Rail!

5 CSX Trains At The Taylorsville Metro Park In Vandalia, Ohio. First Train Has 5 Locomotives On A Mixed Freight With A Brand New CN Boxcar. CSX Intermodal Train Splits The Signals Going Under A Highway Crossing. Then We See A Train Take The Siding To Let An Auto Racks Train Pass. This is my first visit ever to the 1,400 acre Taylorsville Metro Park which is 12 miles north of Dayton, Ohio.
I rode up with Scott, 1960gambit, to meet up with a small group of railfans to spend the day filming trains on the CSX Toledo Sub. The park is at Mile Post 68 and has land on both sides of the railroad. Cincinnati is at Mile Post 0 at Queensgate Yard. The Great Miami River passes through the park and there is a dam and flood walls to protect Dayton. This area was constructed to prevent another flood like the 1913 flood that destroyed Dayton. The flood wall is perfect to film from.
We got to the park at 9:30am and the first train came at 11:08am. We heard it approaching on 160.230 running north from Dayton. Then at 12:14pm another northbound manifest approached but this time it was on the long passing siding.
The third train came at 12:23pm running southbound on the main track. This was an intermodal train. At 12:49pm another northbound mixed freight approached on the passing siding. This train came to a stop to wait for another southbound train.
At 1:21pm a southbound auto racks train passed by on the main line. This train had one boxcar in the middle of the train that carries auto parts. In this video we also take a close look at the rail. I found some sections of rail on the main line that were rolled in 1965! Just think of all the trains that have passed over that. This video is Part 1 of 2. I will post the 2nd part of this video soon that will show another 6 trains. We stayed until almost 8pm. Part 2 will also show more of the surrounding area including the bike trail and part of the Erie Canal aqueduct.

The first train was an excellent NS mixed freight with 5 locomotives and 130 cars, plus or minus. Great variety of different cars including 1 new CN box car and many new covered hoppers! They looked really sharp without graffiti covering them. What a gorgeous place to film at JT! 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤

When I lived in the Dayton area, I loved coming here to watch the trains. If you took the bike path in the woods, you can see the remnants of the canal used before the railroad.

Amazing! I am not really a rail fan but have been watching a few random railfan videos recently. We don't have trains here so seeing one in my travels to the US is a treat. Last year I got held up for a few minutes at a crossing in New Jersey for a local train that stopped across the road and took a couple of pictures. CSX 6242 seen here at 12:42 was the engine moving the train that day in New Jersey as seen in my pictures.

The Taylorville Metro Park in Vandalia, Ohio provides a good railfanning experience, Jaw Tooth. The flood wall provides a higher elevation on which to stand to view the trains. I enjoyed watching the trains as they passed through this Taylorville Metro Park.

Intermodal and Autos moving right along the latter with the SD40 leader. General Freights nice and long the first one with 13 flat cars for the aluminum ingots and 13 scrap tie gondolas and a WC boxcar. The short Freight with a CNW boxcar and the last Freight with a complete mixture old and new. I came across a financial trade article regarding the rail car industry and while the number of new cars being built is strong it is envisioned 250,000 Freight cars will also be scrapped in the same time 2023 thru 2028. Many that passed by today will not be around that much longer especially the older box cars covered hoppers and gondolas. Thanks for the new location recommendation. Hopefully you are not in the tornado zone. Stay safe!

I’ll tell you what JT like I was telling Scott yesterday to me that it the best place that you have ever been to railfan cause you up on that levee and you got the side track there so you’re able to see the train on the track and the train that’s passing and on top of that when y’all waiting for trains, you can lay down on that luscious grass that’s growing on that levy and rest your legs or your back or whatever. lol. The train starting about 12:33 mark that stopped to wait for another train to pass, had at least 10 cars with square wheels, or at least defects or flat spots. That will wreck havoc on the rails over time.

In the consist on the first train the 4th unit, 2370, is a slug. It does not have an engine in it and gets it power from the locomotive behind it that it is married too.

There are legal limits for freight cars in interchange service (around 40 years). Older ones can still exist in captive service, meaning they never leave the owning railroad. Usually maintenance-of-way or company service cars.

I see you in the brush all the time. You should look into sawyers spray. Kills flees, ticks, and other little kritters that cause harm to us and our pets. Just apply to boots, hats, coats, ect., and now more kritters

Quite the "opener" starting @3:23...four second-generation units in a neat row...two (original) SD40's, plus two GP40's, one of which was a road slug!! Eyeballing the consist, I spotted an unusual gondola @5:20...Squaw Creek Railroad!! Entering the Controlled Siding @7:29 was EMD 4555 on the point...following close behind...a C&NW boxcar @8:19. "Intermodal" train @20:36??? How about an autorack unit train -- spliced by a ConRail boxcar -- all led by a SpongeBob SD40-3! Yep!! What do (local) "railfans" (there) know?? Apparently, not much...
