This train was inaugurated from Silghat Town on 1st January, 2018; and it has been named as "Kaziranga Express" w.e.f. 21st January, 2018 as the famous Kaziranga National Park is situated in the Golaghat and Nagaon districts of Assam; and Silghat is situated in the Nagaon District.

The train takes almost 24 hours to cover the distance of 1175 km between Kolkata and Silghat Town.
The train runs weekly, leaving Kolkata on every Monday and leaving Silghat on every Tuesday. The LHB rake is maintained by Kolkata, ER. It has rake sharing arrangement with 13167/8 Kolkata - Agra Cantt - Kolkata Express.
The train stops at Barddhaman, Bolpur, Rampurhat, Malda Town, New Jalpaiguri, New Cooch Behar, New Alipurduar, Fakiragram, New Bongaigaon, Goalpara Town, Kamakhya, Guwahati, Jagiroad, Chaparmukh, Senchoa, Nagaon, Amoni and Jakhalabandha.
Silghat Town is a small town of Central Assam in Nagaon District of Assam. It lies in the Chaparmukh Jn - Senchoa Jn - Silghat Town branch line on the Guwahati - Lumding section of NFR. Silghat was an important port town in the banks of River Brahmaputra. Before the construction of the KOLIA BHOMORA BRIDGE (road bridge) over River Brahmaputra, Silghat served as the important transit point for the river transport between Nagaon and Tezpur / Lakhimpur. It was also a hub of jute industry. However, after the construction of the bridge and downfall of the jute industry lead to downfall of the township. Apart from that, due to its Metre Gauge (MG) railway service, it stayed isolated from the mainstream. Now, Silghat is once again gearing up towards mass development. It now homes the Broad Gauge (BG) railway line and it has well connectivity with Guwahati, and this train service to Kolkata is another praiseworthy step.

IT IS TO BE NOTED that earlier a group of railfans and general public used to call the 12510/09 Guwahati - Bengaluru Cantt - Guwahati Superfast Express as KAZIRANGA EXPRESS, it was never an official name and somehow this hoax even reached Wikipedia. So, official naming of the Kolkata - Silghat Town Express as Kaziranga Express is a welcome step as it would definitely stop the hoax.
