Sounds like it will be great. Sorry I can't go this year. I was in the US in July and can't really afford to go out again so quickly.

Taekwondo is still popular, I think we GenX and millennials did it so we want our kids to at least as an alternative to Boy Scouts. But yes for my Shotokan school I think the Japanese terms intrigues some but scares others off.

I’ll attend a seminar on this country. Flying to America is just not even an option. Good luck and all the best . I’ll keep my eye open for one here. One I can realistically attend 😊

I wonder how different Modern Martial Arts would be if they took inspiration from the Sengoku Period instead of the Edo.

It's the dojos fault. Training methodology is hopelessly outdated. For the most part, a person training for 2 years in kickboxing will defeat a karateka of 20 years. Kata was great for it's time, but it doesn't make a fighter or a warrior. Even the old masters knew only 2 or 3 forms. Heavy bag, focus mitts, and light sparring should be used often from the get go. Update karate and it will be as good as any art. Instead it falls behind arts like muay thai because you spend a sizable amount of time striking one way in kata and kihon, and a completely different way in kumite. In muay thai you fight as you train. I can't speak for the sword arts.
