I trained bujinkan and other ninjutsu systems over the years. I have been a police officer for many years, have had to affect many arrest of aggressive/violent suspects, and have been in a few deadly force situations including fights for my life. I can tell you from personal experience that things that I have learned from training in the bujinkan IS useful and has saved my life and helped me save the lives of others as well. What experience does this author have to make any claims about what works and what doesn't??? He is full of theory, conjecture and bullsh*t he rides the coattails of these systems masters to make a living.

I honestly think if you spent some time watching the older games as far back as 2007-2012, you would get greater context as to why the games are the way they are today. I would love to talk to you about it even further with you if you wanted. The games are meant to be still somewhat grounded in history but with a slight deviation into science fiction being misinterpreted as mysticism and spirituality. By the way, the Assassins in this game are meant to be the good side, fighting against the Templars who are the bad side, but the very first game was having you engage in political and moral conversations and made you question if the Assassins were truly good or bad and if the Templars were in fact the correct ones all along. It's only in today's version of the games that it's lacking nuance and substance that we have this crap before us.

What I asked was "How can YOU stand at the front of a dojo being 'Sensei' when you do not have a black belt in any real martial art?". I can find your video if you like, it shows you in a uniform stood with your back to other people in uniforms and it looks like you're demonstrating a physical martial art move. I've seen a few talks from people and they usually stand facing the crowd who wear what they like. Teaching a martial art requires the instructor to have real-world experience. I know 'Sensei' is an encompassing word.

I've made it a personal mini crusade of mine to correct, to the best of my ability, the confusion between the words "samurai" and "warrior/fighter." I don't need to tell you, but I can only think of one story of many that I've translated where they use the term "samurai" to refer to a warrior, and it's fairly clear that they use that term, not because the characters is a warrior, but because he is the servant of a nobleman. In all other cases, they use the term "tsuwamono" when referring to warriors. Lastly, I hope I can contribute in my own little way to our mutual pursuit of the truth of historical Japanese culture. Wonderful video, as always.

Looks like my question didn't get answered, but that's alright. It was more for you than Steven. I was thinking though, a really good way to get a new generation educated in Japan (and abroad) about what real ninja actually were, would be to write a kids book. You can't often teach people who already think they know something and also don't like learning something they know is wrong. It's much easier to teach people who don't have any expectations right the first time.
@KamiSeiToКүн бұрын
That would actually be a great idea! But it needs special skills I suppose, you don't write a book aimed at kids the same way you do a book aimed at adults.

It’s not my favourite fight scene but it’s made by my favourite director of all time Gareth Evans who made my favourite film of all time the Raid 2 Berandal in the Kitchen. As much as I love Apostle and this fight scene brings back a lot of those classic elements from the film and is trademark Gareth Evans, the Raid 2 is by far the BEST fight scene I’ve ever seen in my life.

A martial art with two, or more than two guys fighting, unarmed, is a modern invention anyway, is it not? Back in the day during feudal Japan, surely it would've been a disarming-jutsu rather than a fisticuffs-jutsu? At the very least, a Tanto would be involved.

Here's what you need to know if you are a history buff. There are only five records of Yasuke: one each in the "Shincho Kouki" and "Ietada Nikki," and three records by Jesuit missionaries. There are only three records: the record of the first meeting between Nobunaga and Yasuke, the record of Nobunaga's return trip from the conquest of Koshu, and the record of the Honnoji Incident. The rest of the contents are largely fan fiction by later generations. And there is no material in these records that could link Yasuke to the status of a samurai. In fact, another record of the Honnoji Incident in the Shincho Koki clearly distinguishes between those with surnames and those without surnames. Yasuke was not a samurai. This is the reality.

Some people may be indignant and say, "What a trivial truth that Yasuke was not a samurai. But there is no doubt that Yasuke was a unique enough "NPC of his time" even if he was not a samurai. He was born in Mozambique (allegedly) and came to Japan. Later, he was given to Nobunaga. The 15 months he spent in Japan as a normal person with his own house was unique enough from the history of slaves and from the history of Japan. 人によっては「弥助がサムライじゃないなんてなんとつまらない真実なんだ」と憤慨する方もいるでしょう。 でも、弥助はサムライではなくともこの時代十分ユニークな「時代のNPC」だったのは間違いないです。 モザンビーク(といわれている)で生まれて、日本に来ました。 その後、彼は信長に貰われます。屋敷をもち普通の人として日本で過ごした15ヶ月間は、奴隷達の歴史からみても、日本の歴史からみても十分特殊でしたよ。

@@user-dl3hr4sy4f Agree. And being present in that tumultuous time and around historical people was an achievement of it's own and is remarkable. But jumping from that to historical legendary samurai warrior is a stretch and is laughable.

How do we (as students of the samurai and ninja arts) go about learning Kuji, Shugendo, Shingon, Tendai, Shinto and Daoism when most of us don’t live in Japan (or China)? The internet is full of frauds with no legit lineages. Many books on these spiritual paths are also written by authors with no credentials. What do you and Steven suggest, besides traveling to China (for Daoism) and Japan for the rest? 🤔

As a Japanese, I must mention that AC Shadows is not a matter of just buying or not buying because this game is so disrespectful to us Japanese. Some of the Ubisoft developers mentioned in the interviews “This game was made based on true Japanese history”, which is wrong. There is so much wrong content. Yasuke was hired as a porter. His job is to carry weapons during war. That it. There is no original Japanese historical document to prove that Yasuke was a worrier or samurai. Thomas Lockley, a guy from British, wrote a book about Yasuke, but he says he wrote it based on Wikipedia and his imagination since there is almost no original Japanese documented information about the black guy. Then the book was published in Japanese and English, but he added false information only to the English version to imply that Yasuke was a samurai. Since then, so many books, articles, etc have been published based on the Lockley’s book. Therefore, most books and articles you see should contain wrong information. The average height of Japanese at that time might have been shorter than that of blacks, but there are many famous tall samurais too. I would say that Yasuke was taller than any Japanese is wrong. Japanese God is not a black color. Some Shinto-related God statues have painted black color, but it doesn’t mean all Japanese Gods have black color. I love the fact that you like Japanese culture, and I didn't want to mention it above, but the recent DEI movement has negatively affected not only Western culture, but also Japanese culture as well. That is why we are so mad against Ubisoft and also Sweet Baby Inc. We don't have any hate feelings for black people. I wish Ubisoft said "The game is fiction", then everybody would not be as angry as this time even though the game still contains many mistakes about Japan. 英語だけで書くと「お前は人種差別主義者の白人」とか「これはフェイクアカウントだ」とか言われるので先に日本語でも書いときます。最後に、日本文化に関心を持ってくれてありがとう。
