Trained Dancer Making "Best Persona Dancers" Tierlist!

For a bit of background, I have been dancing since I was 3 years old and am trained in every main style of dance (Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Hip-hop, Modern, and some Ballroom). I also graduated from University with a BFA degree in Dance with a concentration in Modern specifically.
I will reiterate that this tier list is based on Technical Skill and Performance Execution of the given choreography. It is meant to help people who want to learn some Persona dances, but don't know where to start. Since starting my Side by Side videos I've been getting a lot of questions like that so hopefully this helps!

Coming back to this video and attaching this to my previous comment. But the big difference between Chie's dancing and Akihiko's dancing is that Chie blends her fighting moves into more spunky pop dancing whereas Akihiko is just punching the air. Chie is a legend in my eyes for seamlessly working her kung fu into her dance.

so the P4 team have dance choreography that is easy to do which makes senses for it because they are preforming for a festival that was bombed shelled on them though it's how they convey their emotions in their dance. but for me it's how their dance moves tells a story with the song.

What I love about Persona 5 is that each character of the original game is themed after a thief stereotype, Akira the gentlemen thief Ryuji the muscle Ann the master of disguise Morgana the boss/mastermind Yusuke the counterfeiter Makoto the getaway driver Futaba the hacker Haru the insider Goro the double agent Kasumi can also fit with her being the acrobat

I personally think (like legit no bias) that Yosuke is the best dancer out of the cast. Naoto is tied with him because DAMN girl can move. But I think where the cast shines the best is in the duet dances Haru for p5, and Junepei for P3 (man surprised me lol) Poor Kanji though

To think that Yosuke and Junpei who are both the "bro characters" of p4 and p3 are better dancers than the MC... and then you have Ryuji. 😭 Kinda wish they made him similar to Junpei, maybe a bit less cool and more dorky with some dumb "popular" moves he saw on TV like the nae nae and flossing or whatever it’s called. Just make him go ham, like y’know, a bit cringy but really fun to watch. Instead they made him full on cringe, poor boi. RIP Ryuji, you’ll be remembered.

You know, despite Ryuji being the "bro character" I feel like he's more comparable to Kanji than Yosuke and/or Junpei. Both Ryuji and Kanji are seem as delinquents due to their hotheadedness but have a heart of gold. So it kinda fits that their styles aren't as "cool" as Yosuke or Junpei's and a bit more aggresive.

@@claire6452 Yosuke is my least favorite. Junpei > Ryuji > Yosuke. Junpei has the best character development to me. Even if you look at the Arena game. He's the most nuanced in terms of his relationship with mc too. I loved the rivalry he had going on. His humour is closest to my taste. Ryuji is the most lovable dork out of the three I think. Definitely has the biggest heart and will to stand up for his friends, which makes the offensive things he says sometimes pretty bearable for the most part. Yosuke is meant to be the jokester of the group, but a lot of his jokes are just way too crude and over the top. They're less tasteful. Him picking on the other member's insecurities was the worst. He annoyed me to the point where any character growth he had felt less impactful to me. I don't think his connection to Saki was shown well enough for me to sympathize with him much. And then, when it comes to his relationship with mc, they tried to do the whole jealousy thing towards the end of his social link which they have already done, and done way better with Junpei.

It’s how they portray themselves, unlike 3 and 5, they don’t have to win the competition, just portray those emotions. That’s what works so well for them, they have fun and radiate a confidence in their moves. 3 and 5 just seem to go for the flashy moves, they need to look good to win the competition, but 4 keeps it more simple and practical. They can’t afford to screw up, so they play it safe and show their emotions to the shadows in every dance.

All the crazy ones are good dancers xD Edit: A part of Goro's dance seems to mimic vomiting, then wiping it off as he turns around. I think it not just about him being at war with himself and being controlled like a puppet, but also his struggles to build and maintain an image that fits him less and less over time.

I don't have dancing experience, just a few dances for theater productions, but I noticed that with Makoto Nijima, she tends to dance like she is partially performing a kata. Which is basically like a martial arts dance. Which makes sense due to her aikido background.

@@puddin_hun1179 Well, they pulled them Off tho because it is a dream tho. They didn't Had to dance IRL, i am Sure specific people Like Ryuji couldn't even dance at all Outside of the dream. At least Not without alot of Training. Besides the Protagonists who are good in anything x"3 and the once that learned Dancing IRL, Like Haru altho she didn't dance in a while so she benifits from the dream benifits as Well, cause she Just Has to remember how she used to move. It kinda makes me curious about If the groups Had anoth time to train and all IRL If they would be as good in Dancing aß they are in the dream. Maybe some would be better cause then some knew how to dance x"3 Ryuji.

As much shit as one can (rightfully) give Kuma's dances the more I rewatch them I can't help but smile at how adorable they are, they definitely should've just had him in human form the whole time instead of having the suit. They're a hell of a lot better than Morgana's dances in P5D in any case.

Got through this in 1 sitting. So interesting to see someone with experience go through this! Will say my favourite dances aren't necessarily the most complex or creative, but ones that reflect the character best. Probably why I liked P4 dances best, though I can definetely see why the P3 cast is ranked so high. Also, for some reason I thought Adachi would get lower? Love The Fog, it's a blast, but I can see it being relatively easy.

You should watch "Eve of p3d and p5d" which is a video about this event where all of the actual p3d&p5d mo-cap dancers perform their own character's dances on stage Which also means, Haru actually dances with toe shoes.

I have heard that the hair physics for Miku's hair is everywhere in P4D but in Miku Miku Dance/the Project Diva games are much more tamer

theres no weight on her hair, and they modeled her hair too close to the head. mmd and old project diva styles of her hair make it jut out at like 30-40 degrees or so and make the tips be a counterweight, so it wont do frigging cartwheels by a single hand movement. they also give the hair bounce. idk why they didn't treat her hair like labrys's but longer, she felt last minute on the hair alone.

Loved this video so much, and really love that you're so into Persona. Haven't (and probably won't ever) play the dancing spinoffs, so glad to see a video like this. By the end of it I think the only person I didn't really agree with you on was Chie lol. One of my favorite things about all of these is something you said earlier. The sheer amount of character in everyone's dance really made it believable that they would move that way. Personal favorite one is probably Elisabeth, but the biggest surprises to me were Junpei, Yousuke, and Adachi. The one that surprised me and didn't at the same time was Yukari (can't really explain it). I'm sure someone's pointed it out by now, but as a side note you could have used the Velvet attendants in the scoring since it looks like there's 2 each game: 3 - Elizabeth and Theo 4 - Margaret and Marie 5- Twins and Lavenza Anyways great content again.

1:35:53 To me Chie’s dance doesn’t seem something I could not do with two couple months of training or so That’s maybe because those kicks are not so high and I practiced Kung fu for the past 4 years ;) Maybe you need more Kung fu training than dance training (many of her moves comes from traditional Kung fu training routines, maybe from Hung Gar, and her stand is like a freestyle guard so you have to replicate the footwork and it’s pretty simple for anyone in my Italian Kung fu school). Nevertheless that is definitely a dance with Kung fu moves rather than a Kung fu training (it is very different, more static depending on the style and you have to feel every punch or kick while chie just uses them in a light way to have fun dancing).

I think it's more like your kung fu training shared some similarities with dance training (probably flexibility and speed/movement), which allows you to "cheat" a little and skip a few learning steps.

I am not going to lie, The Fog is so easy to learn, and it's SO INCREDIBLY FUN. It's honestly a blast and a half Edit: Wot? A tier? Yes, there's a couple of hard moves but most of them are pretty easy, I think?

Learning the choreo isn't hard, but performing the isolations with proper technique is hard as fuck. Pulling off isolations correctly is super difficult

all I know is Yu and Adachi should be C tier (source: learnt Specialist and The Fog pretty well with no prior dancing experience), maybe Yu B tier because of some of the footwork Yosuke should be B tier (little bit harder than the other 2 because of the feet gliding across the damn floor) curious to see what your thoughts are when I get to that part of the tierlist

I'm months late but only recently got into the persona dancing games, and coming from someone who also has years of dance training, in my personal opinion some characters were ranked strangely. Firstly, I don't know why Morgana made it to C tier yet Fuuka didn't? Fuuka's dances are quite easy, but her hand movements and intricate gestures aren't something someone with zero dance experience would instantly be able to pick up. If anything, Fuuka is easily a low C considering Morgana's placement. If Morgana is in C tier than almost everyone in D tier would be easy C tiers. Morgana's placement is extremely odd to me. There's nothing in his dance considered even remotely C tier, not to mention you can barely even see his moves due to how small he is. He's no better than Teddie. The only move he does is get down onto the ground which isn't remotely impressive or difficult at all for most people. Now for a more controversial one. I don't think Chie should be an A tier. At best she could be a high B, but nothing in her dance would be too difficult coming from no dance experience. Under a year should be able to get you to that level. The tier list is based off choreography, and the only move that would take that much practice are her kicks, which would likely not take 2 years to get you to that flexibility level. Adachi should be a mid-to-low B at best. Coming from someone who does competitive dance and has used isolation moves for years, that should not be considered A tier. His moves were sloppy. He mostly threw himself around and added a barely flashy hand gesture. Adachi could be A tier if he performed the isolation moves and choreography cleaner in general, but like I said he's throwing himself around and doing a move here and there. I'll say, the moves he is doing are more difficult than they look, but would definitely not take 1-2 years of training considering the level of cleanness he performs them at. There are a few others that I'm not so sure are placed correctly, but will leave it at that for now.
