Steam Doubleheader on the Edaville Railroad...New Locomotive 11!!

On November 29th, 2013 Edaville USA took delivery of new steam locomotive #11. The locomotive made its debut on the 3:00 train on Sunday, December 1st, 2013. Here we see the little 0-4-0 on its first day of service double heading with 0-6-0 #21. Locomotive #11 was built by the Boothbay Railway Village in Boothbay Maine. It is a combination of two 1925 Porter locomotives, #10 and #11 that had been on display at Edaville for years.

This brings back such great memories! Growing up in MA we would go to Edaville every winter. The train ride and seeing all the lights at night was always the highlight for me! Moved away in '87 though. I miss it!

Yeah, they use 2 inch valves at Cass. I'm bringing mine down to Edaville next week. They wanna use it. As long as they're at 125 PSI and up were in business. Monson number 4. ran at 160. I'm not concerned about it.

Number 11 has a 'teeny' whistle, number 21 might look a little funny but it's got a REAL whistle!

How come 21 isn’t running at Edaville right now

It needs a 15 yr / 1472 day inspection before it can run again. It was moved up to Maine Locomotive and Machine Works a few years back for the work to eventually be done. I think they do plan on completing the inspection and running it, but I'm not completely sure.

The new steam engine is supposed to allow them to run steam more often. In fact I think they're running steam this weekend or next!

Railroad,Preserver,2000 if you’re talking about the Maine 2 footers, they are, all came from various Maine railroads and they’re now either displayed or operated in as original condition as they can get.

I'm very confused. My B&M 6 chime sounds nothing like the one heard here. Mine sounds closer to a reading 6. What pressure does number 21 pop at? Maybe it's just a lower pressure. :/

I don't know what pressure it is but its probably pretty low. I don't know why yours would higher pitched, but whatever the reason, I thought your whistle sounded fantastic!!! The difference in sound might be a valve size thing. I think that's part of the reason whistles sound different at Cass. I believe they use either 2 or 2 1/2 inch whistle valves while most places use 1 1/2 inch.

The safety on 21 pops at 150. 11 pops at 160.

#21 is currently down for a rebuild, but #11 is running Christmas light trains every Friday and Saturday until Christmas!

So is #11 essentially a "Frankenstein" locomotive built from two others? I'm guessing they had to salvage parts from one to keep the other running

Yes I as far I know it is made up of what was left of 11 and 10 but I believe it is mostly 11. The two engines were identical. I don't know about the bell, but the whistle is a B&M 6, very similar to a SP but just a little deeper.

The frame, axels, wheels, and running gear came off 11. The rest of the parts were bought. The boiler was built brand new at boothbay railway village.

That’s the most beautiful sounding whistle I’ve ever heard #11 blow. Why’d they take it away? I want to hear that whistle blown by #11 again soon.
