Great to see an actual untrained Springer learning the desired behaviour. My Springer is 7 months and just learning to walk on a loose lead after pulling like a train. I use a thin slip collar and practice 3 times a day. She has recalled to the whistle for the first time today after a few weeks during ball play. Thanks for these videos, very encouraging.

I am not a hunter but love the breed, loving our third Springer. Some of the best features of the breed: They won't rip your face off; off leash, they always walk in front of you; they want to please, unless you annoy them.

Absolutely, my pup Ruby who is seven months, is my forth Springer, my third Bella is eight years soon, filled with love and arthritis but still loves her walks and cuddles. Ruby had a bad start in life, I sent her to a professional dog residential school, after five weeks she came home with a fractured tail. Emergency surgery and 6 weeks later, we are now getting her out working on recall and walk to heal. I will never send a springer training away from me again. It broke my heart, but my health was stopping me train her. I love these utube video's thank you Carol

I'm already to some short sessions on the lead with my 12 week old Springer pup, is this too soon? He's doing pretty well and is Hupping on command. I keep the session short and try to be fun-he's a puppy. Some short retrieves as well.

Hi, all dogs are different but I would leave the lead work till at least 6 months old. Some dogs are fine on the lead from day one and don't pull at all so light lead work is fine. Using a harness on a young puppy is OK but if using a slip lead wait till at least 6 months. Especially with springers. You don't want to suppress the drive if you're hoping to work with the dog.
