I have been listening to you for over a year now. This old post was very helpful to me. I have always been a cardio queen, and this year I am gradually adding in a real weight training program using what you provide in the back of thinner, leaner, stronger. Your info here about the goal of weights is to build strength, and not worry about heart rate and sweating etc..... this made a "lightbulb" go off for me. I have been resisting weight training for that very reason. Thanks for what you do. It is appreciated.

I actually have been training your program for a month now. I challenge myself to lift heavy for 8-10 reps. But sometimes when i'm on my period my energy drops so much can't lift heavy as i normal do. I'm quite surprised that my body gets stronger so quick.

For dieting to cut weight - spot on Michael! Inspiring! Felt like you were talking to me directly :). I weight lift 3 times a week. Do cardio once a week. I count my calories, and plan my meals. BUT, in the weekends I find myself over eating. Sure, I know better, but want to "reward myself" by having for example chips and snacks. For me, I do not want to skip the goodies entirely, but I need to be smarter. I am not over weight, but want to cut fat %. Keep up the good work!

I have a question, in regards to the overeating, let's say you're on a cot, at the end of the day you're still within your calorie deficit, but you have eaten 15 g more fat than your daily intake, 6-TG instead of 45 for example. How does this translate over a few days, you still on a deficit fat is higher than what you have set your goals to be

Hey Mike. I have been watching a bunch of your videos lately, and I get a lot of the same information repeatedly from you. That is a good thing. For one, I don't have to go digging for that one in 100 videos where you talk about carbs. And for two, it shows that you are consistent on your information, not contradicting yourself. On the topic of carbs: So I am pretty much taking in all the science and information that you are giving, rep ranges, diet, macros, poking and cutting, calorie levels etc. and it does conflict with what a lot of other people are saying, about rep ranges, and especially… About carbs. For instance, Sean at getleanin12, another guy that I really respect and has a lot of science behind what he says, and sounds very confident when he speaks about this and sounds like he's being honest not trying to fool you… Sean says you should stick to low carbs, and then "carb up" or do macronutrient timing surrounding your workout either before or after your workout; which you as well discuss some of that macronutrient timing, so your guys's advice is similar in that regard, but totally different regarding carbs. Sean is basically saying to go keto or almost completely carb free on non-lifting days and then cycle carbs in or do a re-feed day to boost the metabolism every fourth or fifth day or so, but almost at all other times just avoid carbs altogether. ---- I totally trust your advice. I just wanted to let you know that there are other "trustworthy sounding" folks out there getting scientific sounding advice that is hundred and 180° different.

Wow, great advice man, I hope I am as knowledgeable about fitness and health as you are someday. What I found very interesting was when you mentioned that reverse pyramid training will increase strength and size much better than traditional pyramid training. I started training intensely about two years ago, I went from 130lb to 170lb in about six months. Granted my calorie intake was through the roof and I have a fast metabolism. I got crazy gains muscle and size wise, but did notice that I have been about 175lb for quite awhile now. I still notice massive muscle gains in my workouts doing the traditional pyramid training, granted I am in the fitness center for quite awhile Monday through Friday. So since I get such good gains with traditional pyramid training, you are saying that basically I will get much more insane gains doing reverse pyramid training?

Great podcast Mike! I have a question regarding calorie counting. I have been doing it for over a year now ( im an intermediate lifter, 116lb 5'7 goal to build muscle) And latley I seem to not able to eat enough even when counting, perhaps its mental and the thought of gaining fat. If I stop tracking and switch to intuitive eating andgo by feel for a while could it hinder progress? Thanks
@giannisps11118 жыл бұрын
Hey mike thanks for the video. I wonder tho if I can make decent gains by eating instictivelly and clean while not tracking my macros ..and of course being at a caloric surplus and keeping my protein intake high.Thank you!

Miguel Rodrigues body composition measuring scales are getting pretty affordable- I recently found one on sale for like $30 on Amazon- if you measure first thing in the morning it's pretty accurate and will show you if you're losing or gaining fat or muscle, not just weight.
@MrUjum9 жыл бұрын
Mike, I've a question if this don't bothers you. With my calorie intake, if I want to cut bodyweight (fat), which is the "biggest" calorie deficit that I could do without risk a great amount of muscle in the process (I mean, what % of the deficit) Thanks again for the video!

Hey Mike! WHat do you think about setting macros based on lean body mass. I am huge guy with 22%bf and 1 gram per pound of protein is just too much for me. I am 6'1 275 lbs
@Necrosis887 жыл бұрын
i measured my bf% at the local pharmacy. They had some goofy scale that has a lever that you are holding in your hands. I think it has a large error margin. Maybe 5% error. Maybe i am 25%. I am strong but fat :D classical powerlifter squat 505 deadlift 535

i am atm at 205 grams of protein, not bad eh ?! On training days i lower the carbs by 30 and increase the protein by 30. I lost almost 30 pounds in 5 months

Hey Mike enjoying your videos,thank you.I know you recommend training a major bodypart per day then cardio later in the evening.I cant do a cardio session in the evening.What do you think about training 2 bodyparts a day(1 major,1 minor) then doing cardio the following day,then back to weights the next day.So weights,cardio,weights etc?
@JerdGuillaumeSam8 жыл бұрын
+Mike Matthews really? I thought it was wiser to do cardio as a separate event. Like If I do weight training first that day, I'll get at least a meal in before I do cardio that day. I was of the understanding that after weight training your glycogen levels are basically depleted. Where else will you get energy at that point? Won't your muscle be sacrificed? Is that what BCAA's help with? I apologize for all these questions.

82,000 bananas? I just lost respect for you. I subscribed yesterday . Maybe you should start doing research on natural fructose from fruit. High protein diets have been linked to cancer. High protein diets are terrible for your kidneys. Next time, don't take shots at people that you see on KZbin eating lots of Bananas. You literally just lost me as a subscriber. Stick with what you know. Don't assume things about people.
