Excellent video... especially when you were going 35 mph !!! Really enjoy watching the calves grow and move on up to the big pen..Was really cool seeing the all take to the bucket feeding so easily.. Brrrr gonna be cold out (really cold) these next few days..Stay warm 🐄❄🐄

Yeah, the panel on the ground is a good idea, just hope he doesn't mess up a hoof from it. Cattle like a solid surface. Not sure if anybody uses the old style "cattle crossings" or not. Basically took the place of a gate. Most common were old railway iron spaced a couple inches apart, or long 3 inch poles. Cows hated these and most except the really hyper/crazy ones, refused to step on them. Most folks in Missouri used them for the main entrance to their farm. I noticed early in the video, it seemed you had 1 calf who just paced the pen continuously. Might wanna keep an eye on that one! LoL We had a white face that had the same behavior. When she grew up she was a fence jumper. Put her back in the pasture with the others and she'd just move down the line and jump out again within 30 minutes! Today's fence jumper is next weeks Big Mac!

if you have ever seen my videos in over 37 years i have never used a bottle unless i have a sickly calf, but i show you how i teach them to drink from a bucket from 3 days old when o get them, i dont have time to mess with bottles and most times they are off drinking on there own after 2 or 3 feedings and a few min, of teaching each day, sure the od one may take 5 days but not often, i have one small bottle on hand just incase i end up with a sick one, and i think i have used that bottle once in 2 years

Nice job with your calves. Question for you - how would you compare the health of your nursing calves, on “real milk”, compared to most of your calve on “powdered milk”? Thanks brother!
@FarmandHammer6 жыл бұрын
The two calves on the nurse cow are MUCH MUCH MUCH better looking! They have grown much quicker and have filled out a lot more. That is the reason I will try to raise any future calves on nurse cows. The faster they grow when they are young the bigger they will be when sold! The ones on milk replacer seem to have a slow growth period right after weaning. They just look poor and they grow slowly until spring. But it will be interesting to compare their final size when sold.

Is it worth to get angus holstein cross for profit
@ka61486 жыл бұрын
Depends on the calf Some hang more to the beef some to the big bone dairy.. Look at the animal prior to agreeing to purchase
