I’ll be honest, I was getting very frustrated with myself this skate. I’ve never really been pushed to my limits like that before and I truly wish Daniel could have been a coaching option for me when I was a kid. If any of you guys get the opportunity to have Daniel coach please do it. I promise you won’t regret it. I’m looking forward to our next skate.. if he’ll have me back that is 😂

I’m actually really glad you showed Nicks pad flair, makes me feel normal to have a narrow bfly. Awesome video and congrats on the new facility!

It isn't too bad if you utilize a half butterfly and flair out one side. It sucks if you're just dropping down and trying to cover the bottom with a good flair. But when reactive just drop down and kick out the leg on the puck side. You'll also reduce future hip problems.

@@IncreasePerformance personally id love to see put the two together of once you make the save, properly continue to your rebound with proper edge stops etc. Also as a new goalie and played in only a few league games I often find myself unsure where to position on face offs in my own zone either between the C and winger or directly on the C but maybe I'm just over thinking that part

That blocker save at 29:46 was textbook. A few things about the new rink... First...plywood/OSB and puck board behind the net on the walls instead of (just)netting. Second...get some decent protective covers for those overhead lights, because one hot shot that goes up just right is gonna put fluorescent bulb all over your ice, and that's gonna be a pain to clean up. Recessed lighting might be a worthy upgrade if you get the chance. Third...see if you can get Trip's dad to build you a homemade Zamboni for your rink. The one he has for their outdoor rink is pretty awesome. Finally...is Nick an exception for a collab, or do you work with old, washed up career beer leaguers who wanna tighten their game up?

Appreciate the feedback, we've been slowly improving the facility and a lot has changed since we filmed this. We will work with goalies of all ages at the facility!

I also have a terrible butterfly flair, is there any stretches you recommend that could help?

Why did Nick the goalie get rid of the canucks themed gear? I don't get it. These pads are nice but they don't compare to the canuck's stuff.

First of all, that was a great video guys. But as someone who played goal and someone who has been a hardcore fan of the game for 40 years, I really don't like the modern goaltending for one reason- it has become too predictable. I think we need goalies to be a little more imaginative and create some kind of hybrid style between the modern, highly efficient movements and the past more athletic movements. Don't get me wrong, coaching has come a long way but it has to be considered a criticism of that coaching that most goalies nowadays are much the same and there are fewer and fewer goalies that really stand out. Shooters are being told that they can count on the goalies to play the same way and to assume the same stances on various shooting scenarios. And we have seen that players more and more know that if they can hit that top short side corner from in tight, they will score because the goalie won't move out of that butterfly. Just in the past week I've seen a couple of beautiful poke checks, but generally speaking that is another lost art that could really help some goalies, especially during the shootouts. Just the threat of that possibility would be an ace up the goalie sleeve.

I don’t know man, I’ve watched several goalie coaches on KZbin. Including this guy a couple of times. He just seems like a HUGE prick. Maybe this is normal ???? Coaching through constant humiliation…..got it. People who are confident in their skills don’t act this way.

It isn't normal. I've done coaching with pro goalies turned coaches and they're extremely humble, but will correct you and work on faults but they're not throwing insults, chirps or whatever else. It just looks like this coach has a very wild personality and loves to chirp, some people will not respond well to this, others might not care. I wouldn't deal with it for the cost. Work on the positive, try to get the negative moving in a better direction and don't insult your clients.

One thing you don't see on camera is the relationship Coach Wapps has with all of the goalies he trains. Him and Nick are great friends and the banter going on in the video was not to belittle Nick in any way. And if you were to ask Nick about Coach Wapps i'm sure he would have glowing things to say about him.

Bad take. Why do we all play this game? To have fun. Intense training like this can be the opposite of fun when you're working on such minute details and it can get frustrating. I think the chirps keep it fun and loose and if you can't handle that then you probably shouldn't be trying to play competitive hockey 😅😂
