This is great! There are very few videos on doves here on YT. I have a mourning dove that I’ve raised since she was a chick. I say, ‘she’, but I haven’t had her sexed, and I’m not even sure how to go about that. I just think she’s a female because she’s smaller than the other mourning doves I see around my feeders. She also does not have the blue tinge on the back of her head as apparently the males of the species usually have. I also know that genetics is funny like that, especially when it comes to morphology, and I doubt that these are absolute traits that one can use to determine gender. Is my reasoning sound here? She is extremely attached to me, and although I’ve never really been a bird guy, this little creature has definitely stolen my heart! I want to know everything about her and how to best care for her. Today I learned that she might need arugula. But I have so many other questions! Is it okay to keep a single dove? Does she need another dove with her? Would a ring necked dove provide the companionship she might need? They look remarkable similar; coloration is almost identical, minus the ring, of course. I’m going to check for other of your videos. Thanks!!

A Ringneck Dove could potentially be a friend to her. Just allow time for them to each have a separate enclosure first. Then introduce them slowly outside the cage. She would do well with a friend. Doves are flock animals Doves eat greens and grains as well as ground up nuts. Scrambled eggs etc. Mourning Doves are basically a Wild cousin to the Ringneck Dove. One difference is that Ringneck Doves come in many colors. We do breed and sell Ringneck Doves and we do ship them.

By chance can you help me as I have a ring neck dove tangerine color in my backyard and I'm in Michigan. Im worried as it will be getting cold here soon, It has been here for 30+ days every day. Its very meaningful as I would love to capture as a pet as it showed up the day I put my dog of 12 years to sleep. It has been here every day. I did do research and bought a cage for him or her . I just need help on the best way to capture. Id appreciate any kind of help. Thank you
