It WAS a demonstration for a CLASS and it was not scripted. The important takeaway is the techniques used to engage someone who is suicidal. Its a TEACHING tool.

This course is very interesting but the roleplay puts me off doing it.

I don't like the way she intervened. There wasn't a lot of empathy, there was no "turning point" ,no safety plan. There could have been a lot longer conversation to guide the client to the point of helping themselves.

Yeah I agree. She escalated the situation very fast and threatened the client. I would have wanted to know first if their was someone in the client's life that could help keep them safe. Not everyone needs hospitalization.

is this what happens when someone comes into the clinic as a involuntary psychiatric hold?

This is an example of what could happen. The class was at a university in Virginia. Other states may differ.

I don't like that she was goingnto be trusted to get herself there

I would not have gone to the hospitalization conversation that quickly. But otherwise, this was pretty helpful.

You're right. If this wasn't an abbreviated class demonstration, there would have been more of a lead-in. Glad you found the demo helpful anyway.
