Never been on this one before, but never again. This R110A or R110B was Introduced in 1993, and it was one of the very first subway cars to feature automated announcements in real-time. The R140s right up to the R179s and the upcoming R211s still has automated announcements to this day. Sadly, it was retired by 1999 and most of 2000, and it was one of the rarest subway cars out there. There were problems. It was put out of service due to brake failure, and also fire broke out of the R110s which cause the subway cars to destroyed. Unfortunately, the R110 subway cars are long forgotten in the MTA community, becoming the most obscure subway car in MTA’s history.

Luckily you can visit the car at PS 248 in Bensonhurst. I don't suggest actually going inside if the gate is open since you might get in trouble for trespassing. You can get a nice view of it from outside though.

Remember what happened at 6:53 there was no radio playing in the subway? They tried it, but not anymore. Thanks to mobile devices where you can stream music on TuneIn, and other music apps. When I go to the TuneIn app, I flipped to KSUR’s “K-Surf”, and got “Disco Saturday Night” playing while riding on a subway late at night if there were little to no people coming in or out of the station. You can turn up the music and crank some 70’s and 80’s retro dance songs to jamming on a subway ride.
The propulsion system of this train is also used on the MBTA 01800-series trains on the MBTA Red Line.

Great video. I had the pleasure of The first viewing in 1992 & in 1993 of the first New York City Subway Technology Trains at The New York Transit Museum on display The R 110 A & R 110 B. I traveled these trains journey's & introductions & displays at Union Turnpike on the E & F train in Queens. Fordham Road on The D Train in the Bronx, & a surprise at 34th Street Herald Square on The N, Q , R, & W platform. All were displayed at those station locations. I feel so robbed not able to ride the R 110 B cars they looked so beautiful & a pleasant ride. The doors chime sound & remind me of The PATH Trains! Why did this happen to these cars & why couldn't they be saved & rebuilt ? The seats looked liked the R 32, R 38, R 40, & the R 40M. The R 42 car seats were blue not light green as above mentioned. As for the current tech trains that later followed The R110 B cars: I don't like the seating arrangements at all! (Except The R 143 cars) The R 179: 😵😖😤 Lemons! As for the delivery of the R 211 very dramatic entrance it's made. The interior & seating very poor. I'm not impressed with its exterior front! One fleet much like the R 211 cars in Europe has forward facing seats look a whole lot better. As I did spot The R 110 cars on The uptown A Train in service that was my first & last time seeing them running. I will always have a special place in my heart 💙 for those cars. One has been displayed in Brooklyn near Coney Island Yard near Bay 50th Street. It stands where the R 16 cars once was at that throne. Great video of these memories of "The Trains Of Tomorrow".

The R143 and R160 models should have based their seating out of this, not the R32 models...

Relocated Redbird agreed. I love taking the r68 and r46 and sit next to the Window

Relocated Redbird Transverse seating is the second-worst seating layout of a subway car, the worst being airline style seating. At this point, might as well add open gangways.

THE R110B'S WERE GREAT! IF THEY HAD ISSUE'S THEN THE MTA SHOULD HAVE SENT THEM BACK TO CLEAR UP THE ISSUES THEY HAD WITH BOMBARDIER.THEY HAD TIME APLENTY TO CLEAR UP THOSE ISSUES ! THAT'S BECAUSE THE MTA DIDN'T START TO ROLL OUT THE NEW COMPUTER CARS FOR TRAVEL, UNTIL 1998 ,AS I RECALL.SO THEY PURPOSELY LET THOSE CARS GO BY THE WAYSIDE INSTEAD OF GETTING THE COMPANY TO OVERHAUL THE PROBLEMS! WHEN I FIRST SAW THEM,I SAID WOW! I LOVED THEM AT FIRST SIGHT! THE COLORS INSIDE WERE VERY EYEPLEASING! THE ANNOUNCEMENTS WERE CLEAR AS A BELL AND PLEASANT! UNLIKE THOSE CLOWN TRAINS THEY WOUND UP SETTLING FOR: THE R160'S&THE R179'S. THOSE R110B'S ARE THE CARS I WANTED TO REPLACE THE RAIL CARS ON THE A-LINE, RUNNING TODAY IN 2018. I'LL NEVER PICK THE R160 OR THE R179'S OVER THE R110B'S! PLUS THE FACT THAT THEY'RE UGLY AND ARE NOISEMAKERS OF THE WORST KIND! EARL OF EL BARRIO NYC NY. 5/30/18. 10:32PM.

EARL KNIGHT JR. They were prototypes, not a long term deal. The R143s are essentially an overhauled R110, except built from brand new and updated for improved reliability. The R143 and R160s are just as good, if not better, than the R110.

They still are in the form of the R142/A and R143 cars. You can find the R142 cars on the 2, 4, and 5, the R142A on the 4, and the R143 on the J/Z and L.
