TRAINS: Amtrak Surfliner f59phi ONE LAST TIME

This is my last footage of the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner f59phi locomotives. These engines served Amtrak from 1998-2019 & will now serve with METRA in the Chicago area, and be replaced by Siemens SC-44 Chargers.

@Coasterfan2105 it was very hard to miss the F59PHI. It's a good thing that Amtrak California keeps the F59PHI's. I don't know why but everyone misses it. and their K5LA's were awesome. R.I.P F59PHI 1998-2019

@coasterfan2105 many call the chargers ugly but people said the same thing about the F59's when they were new but I actually like the look of the chargers and F59's but it doesn't look so good when an F59 is pulling am fleets or horizons

I get to see the chargers a lot here in chicago. I like how quiet they are and aero dynamic they are. When a charger is approaching at high speeds it has no air slams while on another train. Also the LED lights are pretty cool.

They're going to last a lot longer now since metra has plans to rebuild all the f59's that they own. They'll do the same thing that sounder did to their f59s to make them release tier 3 emissions.

the f59 heritage unit with metra 90 (amtrak cascades 467) was painted in a CNW unit after was painted into it was painted into a cascades patch and metra's current scheme the lightning bult scheme is metra 79 (amtrak 456) is the only F59phi with that scheme i think

I get to see these daily now... didn't realize how tall and big they are.... at idle they are much quieter than our MP36's which I hate!! I haven't had the chance to ride in a train pulled or pushed by one of these. I am however excited for the SD70MACH which is going to be "Very Interesting"

Well metrolink bit the dust on April 2nd, 2020 and most of their f59phis are older than Amtrak’s former f59phis. The only ones that are younger are 884-887.

It was the SD Protect Unit when you visited, it's purpose is to make sure every broken down train can get back moving again quickly.
